NEW ROH CHAMPION CROWNED: COMPLETE ROH BEST IN THE WORLD 2017 PPV COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2017-06-23 21:11:00

Welcome to PWInsider.com's live, ongoing coverage of Ring of Honor Best in the World 2017 from Lowell, MA.

After an opening video where Cody Rhodes promised to be the worst "Nightmare" for ROH, we went to Ian Riccaboni and BJ Whitmer, who ran down the card for tonight's event.

The Kingdom vs. Ultimo Guerrero & El Terrible

The Kingdom had pyro during their entrance, which may be a first in ROH history.   Terrible started with Marseglia.  Marseglia was nailed with a big clothesline.  He tried to go for a Russian Legsweep but was drilled hard.    Terrible worked him over with strikes in the corner that looked really good.  Taven tagged in and nailed a springboard into a lucha style armdrag.  Guerrero tagged in and shoved him.

Guerrero and Taven chopped back and forth.  Taven was knocked down on the outside of the apron and hit with a basement dropkick that sent him off to the floor.  Ouch.  Marseglia tried to get involved but was sent into the barricade.  Guerrero held Taven against the barricade, allowing Terrible to leap over him and smash down onto Taven.

TK O'Ryan got involved but Guerrero grabbed him.  Marseglia ripped at his face and O'Ryan nailed him with a crutch.     Back in the ring, Guerrero shoulderblocked down Marseglia and rallied the fans.  Marseglia ducked a clothesline but was nailed with another, knocked down into the corner.  Guerrero went into a handstand on the top turnbuckle and then swung down into a kick.  That looked awesome.  He went for another but Vinnie moved and The Kingdom nailed a Hot Shot,  They were knocked to the floor, where Terrible hit a dive to the outside.  Guerrero then came off the top with stage dive onto everyone.  Fun stuff so far.

The Kingdom gained control and now it was their turn to hit some big dives, including an awesome dive by Taven.   Taven and Marseglia worked over Team CMLL until Guerrero nailed a back superplex.  He went for the cover but Marseglia attacked and broke it up.  Terrible broke up Marseglia's attempt at a pinfall.  Good stuff.  The Kingdom tried to set up for the Rockstar Super Nova but Marseglia was pulled out of the ring.  In the chaos, Guerrero rolled up Taven and scored the pin.

Your winners, Ultimo Guerrero & El Terrible!

Good opener with some fun lucha stuff and an entertaining back and forth match overall.

Frankie Kazarian vs. Adam Page: Strap Match

This was just an awesome, hard hitting match where each man each had a strap.  They beat the hell out of each other, including a brawl up the aisle that saw Kazarian suplex Page onto the stairs.  At one point, Kazarian was tied with Page’s noose to the ropes and was lit up with the strap.  They really had Kazarian take a crazy amount of punishment and Page went under the ring to get a strap that had nailed and tacks attached.  They teased using it but Kazarian went nuts with some hot offense, only to be hit with the Rite of Passage.  He was whipped with the weapons strap and it tore his back up as it was bleeding.  In the end, Kazarian made Page tap by choking him out with the strap and hanging him from the ropes.  Kazarian held on to make his point and apparently has won the feud.  Just a great match. They told a great story and really beat the hell out of each other.  Ian Riccaboni had a great call here as well.

Search and Destroy vs. The Rebellion – Losing Faction Splits Up.

All sorts of crazy chaos and big spots early.   Jay White looked great here with offense against all four members of the Rebellion.  They noted Shane Taylor has dropped 60 lbs.  The Guns began hitting all their signature moves.  MCMG nailed the Dream Sequence.  They wiped out Kenny King with a superkick into a German suplex but The Rebellion broke it up.   Lots of brawling on the floor.    King cut off White and worked him over, hitting the chinchecker and a Skysplitter for a two count, but the Guns broke it up.  Gresham nailed an Asai Moonsault and then a dive to the outside, although he got caught up on the ropes during the first moonsault attempt.  The Guns hit dives.  White nailed a big German suplex on Taylor.   Gresham hit a shooting star press onto Titus for a two count.     The finish saw The Rebellion all trapped in submissions at the same time and finally Titus tapped as he was locked in a Octopus and punched in the face.  The Rebellion has to disband.  Really fun, frenzied finish.

Punishment Martinez hit the ring and attacked White after the match.
