RADICALS VS. SULLIVAN AND GRAHAM, JOSH VS. BORASH, ORTON ON INDY TALENTS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2017-05-20 10:00:00

I was recently watching highlighs  of Kayfabe commentary's Guest Booker series. This one featured Mike Graham. He discussed Chris Benoit stealing Nancy Sullivan (then Kevin Sullivan's wife). He then went on to tell his side of the story of Benoit,Eddie Guerrero,Dean Malenkoand Shane Douglas-whom he reffered to as "the short blonde kid from the Dynamic dudes"and how they wanted Sullivan, and Graham fired or they were foing to jump ship to WWE.Graham went on to basically say how none of them ever drew a dime, and how he was able to check minute by minute ratings (i;m assuming tv).   My question is how much of his story is true, and how much of it is just Graham "blowing smoke"I find it hard to believe that even back then that Eddie Guerrero especially wasn't drawing.

There is some truth to what Graham was saying.  Benoit and company did not want Sullivan in power, fearful that he would use his position of power to punish Benoit, who was now with Sullivan's ex-wife.  Graham was never an issue, until Graham got into with them backstage and threatened he would do something to them if they screwed with his job.  That threat allowed them to get out of their WCW deals without a non-compete and jump immediately to WWF.    As far as who was and wasn't drawing, WCW was in a tailspin at that point and no one was drawing.

I just don't get Ambrose. His offense doesn't look convincing and, if anything, it looks stupid. He's not great on the mic. I feel like he's taken huge steps backwards the last 2 years. Do you see him putting it together?

I think his offense is fine.  He's supposed to be this gritty, off the wall type of personality, and the audience obviously responds to him.  I think you make a point that he hasn't been consisten always in the ring, but overall I think he's been good.

Great job on the site as always.  Here’s my question: how could someone in a management position in Impact/GFW honestly believe that there is anything positive about the whole commentary team drama?  It comes across as absolute drek, particularly when Josh and JB are arguing during a match, or when JB is holding up signs in the audience that allude to profanity.  Why not just let Josh do his job (which he can do well when he’s not trying to be a controversial character)?  Are they getting positive feedback about this aspect of the show?  Thanks.

it appears they want to build to Matthews being a big heel manager.  I really think the entire plan was to get Jim Ross in the booth but when he signed to go back to WWE, they changed plans and are now blowing this off at Slammiversary instead.  To get there, they have to do the storyline.  I may be in the minority, but I haven't hated it as much as others, because I think Mathews is absolutely great as the obnoxious prat.

Whether you agree with Orton's assessment of the Indy scene or not- isn't it somewhat ridiculous that Orton is criticizing anyone for doing something to get noticed when he never had to wrestle on the Indy scene because he got a developmental deal based on his last name? Also, when Orton was a young guy, trying to get noticed in OVW, wasn't his finisher a top rope dive?

Orton has no idea what it's like to try and go out and make your name out of nowhere on the indy scene but I think it's pretty obvious he had a few drinks and was trying to screw around and get a rise out of people.

There was a question a while back when he first got elected on if Linda McMahon's affiliation with Trump would affect the WWE product. Fast forward to now, ratings have been on a steady decline. I know a lot of people who have said they will no longer give WWE their money and/or support the product because McMahon donated $6 million to Trump's campaign and that they essentially feel that their own money was a part of that and directly paid for his campaign and him winning. Politics asides, that is fair. Now obviously the WWE product, booking, and storylines are a factor as well, but do you think the decline in ratings, etc. have anything to do with McMahon's affiliation? People may have already been down on the product, but I feel politics was the final straw for them to actually quit watching/supporting WWE now. Mania was going to be a huge number no matter what, so that doesn't count. But now that it's out of the way, I can see the correlation between declining ratings/attendance and wanted your thoughts.

Obviously, it's possible, but I think you are reaching here.  I have not heard from one fan that has told us they were giving up WWE because Donald Trump was elected President.  That's not to say it couldn't be happening, but I think there are greater factors at play than someone saying Trump is President, so screw the McMahons.
