HARDYS-ANTHEM-WWE, EATING ON THE ROAD, COUNTING WRESTLERS OUT OF THE RING AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2017-05-05 10:00:00

Is there a technical reason as to why in American wrestling that when the ref counts to 10 for wrestlers to get back in the ring, the cadence is much more slow and drawn out than a normal cadence for when a ref counts to 5 to break a hold? Or is it just for drama? Also, why is there a 20 count in Japanese wrestling for wrestlers to get back in the ring and why the difference between the two styles?

It's exactly what you said.  They are done that way to help build the drama and flow of the matches.  In Japan (and in Ring of Honor), there is a 20 count to allow more action outside the ring and build to the drama so that when they return to the ring, it gets a big reaction.

Bray Wyatt's House of Horrors match sounds like it will be Final Deletion 2.0. A lot of pre-taped stuff, illogical attacks, and special effect. All that is great, but will the Hardy's be mad that they couldn't do it with their lawsuit with Impact. Also, it's obvious that the broken gimmick has been immensely toned down, if not, gone altogether for their old WWE gimmick. But say the lawsuit with Impact is over and the Hardys win, do you think WWE will let them use it even though they they didn't create it? They would be crazy if they didn't.

I don't know what you have been reading, but it wasn't PWInsider.com.  We have never reported there was a lawsuit filed, because NO LAWSUIT WAS EVER FILED over the Broken Hardys gimmick.  WWE isn't doing it because they wanted the nostalgia pop and run for the Hardys.  The fact Matt Hardy is screaming "Delete" on the Payback PPV this past weekend and the company wasn't hiding it is pretty much proof they are confident they can use the gimmick.  Unless Anthem files a lawsuit, nothing is going to happen.  WWE will eventually use the gimmick.

Also, why would the Hardys be mad about the House of Horrors, anyway?  It's not like the Hardys were the first one to film wrestling matches in unique locations and air them.  That has been done in Japan for decades.  Hell, Memphis wrestling had an empty arena match with Terry Funk and Jerry Lawler.

I often hear read that wrestlers have a hard time eating healthy when on the road. If say the WWE has catering at every event, do they not provide the healthiest foods for them - especially if they are going to be performing for them that night? I would assume it wouldn't be steaks or fried chicken that they are serving.

WWE caters backstage at PPVs and TV tapings, but beyond that, they do not.  When you are on the road 24/7 for 3-5 days a week, you have to handle your own meals.  If you are specifically dieting and eating a certain way, you are going to have a hard time maintaining that when you are constantly traveling, especially when you factor in leaving events late at night, driving to the next town after, checking into hotels even later, etc.

Where is Tony Chimel and how come he isn't used anymore?

He still works for WWE, but isn't used as a TV personality.  The company prefers younger talents on screen when it comes to announcers.

I see you are doing Legends of Extreme again for Highspots.  How can you work for Highspots when you work for PWInsider?

It's really simple.  I have the right to work on outside projects if I choose to and Dave Scherer makes it easy for me to do so when I do.  When we film Legends of Extreme, it's set up well in advance.  It's not like on Tuesday, we make the decision to film on Wednesday!  We know at least month ahead of time when I will be working on that season's episodes.  With Dave on the West Coast and me on the East Coast, it is relatively simple to make sure the site is covered during the time I am working on the series.  On filming days, there are breaks set up so if there is something breaking or important I need to work on PWInsider.com, I have the ability to jump on a laptop and work on that before we begin filming again.    Plus, producing and hosting the series for The Highspots Wrestling Network isn't a conflict of interest with PWInsider.com.  I wouldn't report news for Highspots obviously, but working on the shows is a different realm from my work here on PWInsider.com.
