FIRING JBL, ROH OTT, YANKEE STADIUM AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2017-04-20 10:00:00

This in regards to your response to a question about why JBL hadn't been fired.  It's obvious JBL is "protected" in that he is liked by Vince McMahon, Kevin Dunn, etc.  So that does give him an incredible amount of leeway.  But couldn't you make the argument that some companies would fire him for simply bringing more bad press to the company just like when he gave the Nazi salute in Germany?  You're right JBL isn't going anywhere for if no other reason Vince McMahon likes him and in some ways, has done some of the same type of things to employees (IE: Jim Ross, Mark Henry.)  If this weren't WWE, and another company had an employee who's had multiple accusations of bullying (this time against someone with a mental illness) and has in other ways brought negative attention to the company, he would be fired for simply not being worth the trouble.

Sure, you could make that argument, but again, we are talking about firing him for something that happened well over a decade ago that they didn't fire him for at that point.   It's just not going to happen and honestly, as much as it pains me to say this - it shouldn't.  If he's going to be fired, it should be for something he has done today that deserves that result, not the company suddenly doing an about face after ignoring or passive aggressively giving their permission for the behavior.  The people in power would dismiss what some may consider bullying as simply ribbing or being all in good fun or being "one of the boys."  Unless the culture changes there, and I have no real reason to believe it will, it doesn't matter whether someone is fired or not.

Wondering if there's any truth to the growing speculation that Bray Wyatt is frustrated with his situation after being drafted to RAW during the Superstar Shake-Up?

I don't believe that to be the case.  He just had a run with the WWE title and is poised to be a top name on the Raw brand.  That's not a reason to be frustrated.  If you had asked me about a Dolph Ziggler, who's been running in place for a decade now it seems, then we'd have cause for speculation.  You can say Wyatt's had some badly booked stories, but so has everyone.  I don't see him being frustrated with his place in the company.

How is Tyson Kidd these days and do you believe he will ever wrestle again?

Kidd was actually at Wrestlemania weekend, the first time he's been at any WWE functions or events since he was injured.  He remains under contract to the company and I do not believe he will ever wrestle for them again.  My belief is that when his deal expires, he will come to some sort of financial settlement with the company and move on.

You mentioned an ROH OTT service.  Is this in conjunction with the American Sports Network Sinclair is launching?

No, ROH is not currently scheduled to be included in that project.  This is a completely different project altogether.

Has anyone ever run wrestling in Yankee Stadium?

To the best of my knowledge, they have not.
