Just days after he main evented New Japan's Wrestle Kingdom and faced Kazuchika Okada in a match that will discussed for years to come, Kenny Omega took to Twitter to tease the idea that he was exploring his options and taking time off. "I will be stepping away from Japan to reassess my future," Omega wrote this morning. "The path of my journey may change, but my goals will not. There is no plan. My schedule is cleared and I'm weighing all options. I've a lot to consider. Thx for the patience/support "
Mike here: Omega's major goal was to headline a Tokyo Dome event, which he has now accomplished. It's entirely possible he will just be sitting out the FantasticaMania events, which use primarily CMLL talents as the only outsiders. it makes sense from a storyline perspective that after his loss at the Dome, he would need a time out. If he's not back by the New Beginnings events, then it will be time to really sit up and take notice. Obviously, Omega means more now than at any previous point in his career and can write his own ticket anywhere, but he's always been driven by competing in Japan (even asking out of a WWE developmental deal to go to Japan), so unless his goals have changed by virtue of having pretty much a perfect match at the Dome, expect him back eventually in a NJPW ring. If he is seeking to see what else is out there for him on the market, his tweet was a smart way to open the doors for that communication.
