BRUNO VS. PEDRO, WHERE'S RVD, SMACKDOWN LIVE AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2016-10-28 10:00:00

The other day I watched the JBL interview with Bruno. It was an outstanding interview. What caught my attention was that while Bruno was talking about his WWWF career, he left out any reference to or acknowledgement of Pedro Morales. As I recall, Morales spent long periods of time as WWWF champion and seemed to pass off back and forth with Bruno. In fact if my memory serves me, Bruno and Pedro actually teamed up for a short time which led to a feud between them culminating in a match at Shea  Stadium. Do I have this all wrong? Or is there heat between the two? Thank you.

There is no heat between the two.  They didn't trade the WWWF championship back and forth at all.  After Bruno lost it to Ivan Koloff, Pedro won it.  After Pedro lost it, Bruno won it was a second time.  They had an angle where while teaming, they ended up fighting with each other which led to the Shea Stadium match, which was a one time affair.  While they were around at the same time, that was the only in-ring meeting.

My question is this: Smackdown ratings aren't really so hot, and seem to be worse than when they were recorded and airing on Thursdays and even Fridays. However, the popular opinion from what I can tell is that the blue brand is the better show. I'm of that mind set as well. I mean come on- Heath Slater is getting face pops from the hot tag, and James Ellsworth is selling merchandise! Compare that with Lesnar's tired act of bouncing around, doing nothing while Heyman talks. If the show gets higher votes on WWE's polls for fan approval than Raw, and most people like it more, what's the excuse for lower (and in most weeks, declining) ratings?

The numbers are actually up from when they were taping the show and airing it on Thursday, so while the number may go up and down, it is still stronger than what it was before the brand split.

I get all the hype surrounding Ellsworth, although I do still believe they’re burying AJ in the process, except that it’s all entertainment. My question is this: shouldn’t he be wrestling with the Cruiserweights? After all, he can’t be more than 175-180 lbs.

No, because he's meant to be a comedy figure that gets sympathy, not a legitimate competitor.

Is Sara Del Rey still a trainer for WWE?

Yes.

What happened to RVD and his limited WWE schedule contract? Haven't seen him in forever.

Nothing.  We have heard the company reached out to him for a return around the time of the brand split and he declined.  His deal is that he comes in and does a cycle of dates and then takes time off and returns when he wishes.   He hasn't wanted to return since his last departure and has been working on lots of outside entertainment projects including stand-up comedy and more.
