IS THERE MONEY TO BE MADE WITH GOLDBERG VS. LESNAR, WWE PAYING FOR SURGERIES, PUNK & ANGLE AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2016-10-14 10:00:00

Is there really money to be made in Goldberg vs Lesnar? It seems Lesnar is losing steam as his indestructible gimmick is running its course and Goldberg is 50. Plus, their first encounter almost 15 years ago was unremarkable at best. Aside from the initial buzz it could create I don't see it luring people to the network who won't already be watching Survivor Series (or wherever it may take place.) Maybe putting it on Raw against Monday night football would be smarter? If nothing else, WWE might get a rating bump for people rubbernecking a disaster waiting to happen?

If we were talking traditional PPV, I may agree with you, but WWE is trying to use the nostalgia and the anticipation of what *could* happen to entice subscribers to buy a $9.99 WWE Network subscription.  As I have said in the Elite section of the site numerous times, the entire match should be based on what happens when these two touch for the first time in the ring and they should be kept far apart until the night of the PPV.  Goldberg wrestling for the first time in 12 years will get some attention from those who fondly remember him.  I don't see an upside to spending that sort of money on Goldberg and then not having him on PPV.

You've reported that WWE floats the cost for job related injuries that require surgery. Does that go for suspended performers? For example- Paige. And what if she were fired? Would they still pay for her recovery since she was hurt while under they're umbrella?

As long as the company agrees that the surgery is necessary, they will completely cover the costs of the surgical procedure and the rehabilitation following the surgery.  Whether a talent is suspended or not has no bearing on that situation.

I am watching the Kayfabe Commentaries History of ECW DVD with Tod Gordon.  Do you think he ever goes into the WWE Hall of Fame?

Tod is certainly deserving of any honor bestowed upon him, but I don't see WWE going out of their way to induct him.

Was Jeep Swenson the wrestler the same person who played Bane in the George Cooney Batman film?

Yes.

Why didn't WWE bring back the rest of the Spirit Squad?

We are told they intended to but Johnny Jeter and Nick Mitchell turned down the opportunity.

With the return of Goldberg, the only names WWE has yet to bring back are CM Punk and Kurt Angle.  Do you see that happening?

I expect Angle back more than I do Punk.  There is still an ongoing lawsuit with Punk and Dr. Chris Amann with Punk claiming Vince McMahon is bankrolling it.  WWE still sent Punk termination letters on his wedding day.  There's a lot of baggage to work through before those two sides will want to work together again.  It's still a very fresh scar.  Angle, on the other hand, is at the end of his career and obviously wants to close it out on a Wrestlemania stage.  I think if WWE wanted Angle, they could get him.  The Punk situation is a lot dicier.
