WHY MUSIC WAS (AND WAS NOT) PULLED FROM IMPACT WRESTLING TONIGHT

By Mike Johnson on 2016-10-13 23:25:00

A few readers reached out and asked why there were theme songs for TNA talents - Miracle Mike Bennett and DJ Z - that were removed from tonight's broadcast of Impact Wrestling.

One rumor that has made the rounds is that the music was pulled due to Billy Corgan's lawsuit against the company.  We are told that is not correct and in fact, music composed by Corgan for Impact Wrestling aired on tonight's episode.

Based on Youtube postings of each song that was pulled, they were composed and performed by Dale Oliver, who has been working on TNA music themes as far back as 2002.    If the music was pulled due to a rights issue (and I can't imagine any other reason that would see the music used at the TV tapings, which we have confirmed they were, and then pulled from the TV broadcast a week later), that issue would be with the songwriter, who in this case would be Oliver.

One would assume TNA contractually had the rights for the themes in question, especially since they were specifically written for talents in the company, but if TNA did, it would make no sense the music was pulled - so it's likely a rights issue of some sort with Oliver.

More as we get it, but the music being pulled was not a by-product of the Corgan lawsuit that was filed on 10/12 in Nashville Chancery Court.
