FOLEY KNOCKS BROOKLYN FANS FOR UNIVERSAL TITLE DISRESPECT, NEW NXT DATES, TALENT DEBUT SET FOR WWE CHINA EVENT AND MORE NEWS

By Steven Fernandes with Mike Johnson on 2016-08-23 01:31:00

Mick Foley wrote a Facebook post commenting on the fans reaction to the Universal Championship Sunday night at this link, stating that a vocal minority disrespected the talents and that they could have ruined what was an important personal moment for Finn Balor, noting that Balor flew his family to NYC from Ireland to see him win the Universal championship.

Note from Mike Johnson:  Mick made a lot of very valid points, but what I believe has been lost in the conversation about the fan reaction at Summerslam to the new championship belt is why it happened.  Live at the PPV in NYC (but not on the broadcast of the show) was a segment where Mick and Stephanie McMahon came out and did promos unveiling the new belt and Mick even made a comment (I am paraphrasing) along the lines that Raw had gone out of their way to design a new belt.  It was obviously meant to be tongue in cheek by Foley, but when the belt was revealed, the audience felt like they had been insulted because the belt was such a close clone of the WWE World title.   Had they just presented the belt live without any attempt to build it up, it's possible none of that reaction would have ever happened.

Speaking of the belt, WWE are taking pre-orders for the RAW Universal Championship Replica Title. They expect to be in stock on 12/12.

WWE announced that Bin Wang, their first Chinese NXT signee, will be making his in-ring debut on the WWE Live Event in Shanghai on 9/10 against Bo Dallas.

On Monday, Triple H announced NXT dates for:

Norfolk, VA - Oct 6
Richmond, VA - Oct 7
Baltimore, MD - Oct 8
