By Mike Johnson on 2016-07-26 21:26:00

Former ECW and NWA champion Rhyno, 40, officially returned to the main roster for the first time since June 2005 on tonight's episode of Smackdown Live.  PWInsider.com reported on 7/21 that Rhyno was returning [Elite subscribers, click here] and would be part of the Smackdown brand.

Rhyno was hired by WWE after the original ECW shut down in 200 (he was the unified ECW World & World TV champion at the time) but was let go in June 2005 after an incident at a hotel over Wrestlemania 21 weekend.  Since his initial WWE run, Rhyno captured the NWA title briefly at the first-ever TNA Bound for Glory PPV and has wrestled all over the world after a long run with TNA.

In 2015, Rhyno returned to WWE as part of the NXT brand, working in a veteran's role to help developmental talents gain experience.  In his debut, Rhyno hit the ring as a surprise and gored Heath Slater, who was cutting a promo demanding he be signed to the Smackdown brand.  Shane McMahon referred to Rhyno as the "hottest free agent" on the mic during the segment.

Under his given name of Terry Gerin, Rhyno is currently running to become the state representative for his district in Dearborn, Michigan.  The Detroit News ran a piece about his campaign yesterday, which you can check out by clicking here,
