CWH RED CARPET RUMBLE LIVE REPORT

By Mick Greenwood on 2016-07-22 07:55:00

Championship Wrestling from Hollywood’s biggest show of the year, the Red Carpet Rumble, was filmed July 10th at the Oceanview Pavillion.

The show opened with a confident Scorpio Sky backstage informing the crowd that Peter Avalon’s reign as a “transitional champion” was over.

·        “PRETTY” PETER AVALON (c) defeated SCORPIO SKY to retain the HOLLYWOOD HERTIAGE CHAMPIONSHIP
A long, back-and-forth match between the challenger and the champion saw several near-falls and whipped the capacity crowd into a frenzy. Avalon, returning from concussion, seemed almost hellbent on reinjuring himself if it would have helped him keep his title. Sky aggressively targeted Avalon’s head, seeking every advantage he could find to put the champion away. But the champion’s heart proved too strong – he kicked out of everything Sky through at him before finally clinching victory over his exhausted and exasperated challenger.

The rest of the locker room geared up for the Rumble, itself. Backstage Vermin drew their numbers together. YUMA, Joey Ryan, Kevin Martenson and Ryan Taylor all were relatively pleased with their draws; however, Bad Dude Tito (the group’s constant malcontent) was clearly not.

·        ERIC WATTS w/TY MATTHEWS defeated JULIUS COLEMAN
Watts and Matthews debuted a new look to accessorize with their newly-gained Percy Pringle III Memorial Cup (PP3 Cup). Coleman had demanded the match to avenge a backstage assault at the hands of Watts. Coleman should have been careful what he wished for, though. While Coleman got a couple of good shots in on the frightening big man, Watts made quick work of his opponent. He and Matthews walked out as they often do – smiling creepily.

The drawings continued backstage as Big Duke picked his number and expressed his hope that his number would help ensure that DJ Hyde was in the ring when Duke’s number was called. Meanwhile, The Friendship Express (Hobo and Jervis Cottonbelly) came to the realization that to overcome the odds in their fatal-four way, they would have to dig deeper than they ever have before.

·        THE FRIENDSHIP EXPRESS defeated PAC 3 & LOS PRIMOS RIVERA & THE CLASSIC CONNECTION to retain the UNITED TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
The ferocity and hatred that lead to this fatal four-way being booked was on full display at the Red Carpet Rumble. Los Primos Rivera (Danny and Gino) and The Classic Connection (Buddy Royal & Levi Shapiro) poked old bruises, fighting each other with hateful aggression during the match. The Friendship Express spent much of the match on their heels. But, as LPR and TCC let their aggressions distract them, Hobo and Jervis found themselves squared up against PAC-3’s Dan Joseph and Dicky Mayer. With everything at stake, Jervis Cottonbelly did something he had never had the courage to do – he came off the top rope, hitting a high-flying Bunny Stomp on Mayer to pick up the pinfall and retain the championships.

·        HAMMERSTONE defeated BAD DUDE TITO (of Vermin)
Both fighters rode impressive win-streaks into Red Carpet Rumble. They were set to challenge one another by CWFH’s ruling family – the Marquez family – who are despised by Tito (and the feeling is mutual). When Hammerstone took Tito’s best beating and still picked up the win, one must think the Marquez boys clinked a glass backstage.

·        DREW GULAK defeated TIMOTHY THATCHER
The legendary tag team agreed to square off and put on a show for the capacity crowd and they did not disappoint. The submission-heavy technical exhibition gave both wrestlers a chance to show why they are two of the top cruiserweights in North America. In the end Gulak seized the tiniest of advantages, but it was enough to declare victory. As the tension and intensity of the match abated, the two longtime partners shook hands and walked out together.

·        RUBY RAZE debuted and defeated ASHLEY GRACE
For months, as the Women’s division has grown larger and larger at Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, two things have become truer and truer: 1) Ashley Grace has become the ultimate underdog; and 2) Ruby Raze has only gotten more mysterious and conspicuous in her absence. Both realities came crashing down as Ashley issued an open door challenge and Ruby finally emerged to answer the call. Ashley may regret her decision. Raze dominated from bell to bell, issuing a pinfall out of either mercy, boredom or a blend of the two.

·        WILLIE MACK returned and defeated JOEY RYAN
With Joey’s original opponent unable to answer the call, the fans at the Oceanview Pavillion were delighted to see Willie Mack come striding through the Hollywood curtain. The fans’ joy didn’t translate to Ryan who locked up against Mack but couldn’t quite gain the upper hand. The ultra-athletic big man picked up a big win in his return to his old stomping grounds.

After the match, Joey’s compatriots in Vermin rushed the ring to throw the soon-to-be-married viral star a surprise bachelor party (sponsored by Joey’s sponsor – YouPorn). The festivities have already gone viral, but a cavalcade of some of YouPorn’s biggest stars helped throw the party. The renowned Eva Angelina got a little bit too into the action and ended up on the receiving end of Ryan’s most…”famous” move.

·        BATEMAN defeated JAMES “MAIN EVENT” MORGAN; retaining the UNITED TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP and forcing MORGAN TO RETIRE
For months, Bateman took from Morgan. He took his manager, Stu Stone, out of action permanently. He took his title by cheating to win (with the help of his lackey Jarek 1:20). Then he took his hope of a rematch by, once again, cheating to win. He took Morgan’s poise – summoning “the old James Morgan” and all the unhinged ruthlessness that came with it. Finally, at Red Carpet Rumble, he took the last thing there was left to take – Morgan’s livelihood. Morgan went out on his shield, though – turning in a performance that saw him bring high-flying moves back to his arsenal that had long since been retired. He beat Bateman, he bloodied Bateman. Bateman cheated, as he always does, but Morgan even thwarted that. In the end, Bateman just sadistically refused to lose and Morgan found himself at the end.

After the match an emotional Morgan was welcomed into the next phase of his life as an adoring crowd chanted “Dr. Morgan” at the former Red Tornado, who will indeed enter the medical profession now that his in-ring career has concluded.

·        BAD DUDE TITO won the RED CARPET RUMBLE; now becomes #1 Contender to the HOLLYWOOD HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Rumble had all the makings of Vermin’s finest hour. Their ranks drew favorable numbers and, despite a wild Rumble match and recent weeks of internal discord, they stayed strong throughout the match. They were so well-oiled that a surprise return of Nick Madrid, former member, was deemed unnecessary and Vermin expelled their former member from the match. The five members of Vermin were the five, final remaining competitors.  And that’s when Vermin did to itself what they had told the world could not be done – they eliminated each other. As they viciously turned on one another, Tito and Yuma were fittingly the last two remaining. As they fought for supremacy and odd thing happened – Yuma was presented with a trademark opportunity to use his trusted weapon (his pipe) on Tito and chose not to. Tito had no such problem, he levelled Yuma and won the Rumble, leaving himself standing atop the heap of what once was Vermin and forcing a furious Nicolas Marquez to raise his hand to close the show.
