ROMAN REIGNS CLEARED TO RETURN

By Mike Johnson on 2016-07-21 09:00:00

Former WWE champion Roman Reigns is officially cleared to return to action (which is good, since he's main eventing the Battleground PPV this Sunday) from his 30 day WWE Wellness Policy suspension.

Reigns was suspended on 6/21, one day after he filmed an angle to set up this weekend's three way main event featuring himself, WWE champion Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins.  Reigns had lost the belt to Rollins on 6/19 at the Money in the Bank PPV, leading to Ambrose cashing in his MITB briefcase and defeating Rollins.  So, all three former members of the Shield ended up holding the WWE championship on the same show.

Reigns' suspension was acknowledged on WWE programming, the first suspension of it's type to be incorporated into the company storylines since the Wellness Policy was enacted in 2005.  The fact he was still in the PPV main event was ripped on by Rollins as he and Ambrose went back and forth over the last few weeks, keeping Reigns in the forefront of the audience and promoting him for the PPV although he could not be part of the physical storylines due to the suspension.
