DANNY MILLER PASSES AWAY

By Mike Johnson on 2016-06-06 14:31:00

Danny Miller, 84, who was a star in a number of territories including the WWWF, Mid-Atlantic and Florida, passed away this morning after going to hospice several days before.

Miller was the younger brother of Big Bill Miller, following Bill into the business after serving several years in the United States military.  Miller debuted in 1955 and teamed regularly with his brother, Nelson Royal and Les Thatcher during different eras of his career.   In the WWWF, The Millers held the United States Tag Team championships, belts that were used as an undercard attraction prior to the creation of the WWWF Tag Team championships in 1965 in Madison Square Garden, beating Gorilla Monsoon and Bill Watts.  The team also had a run in Calgary for Stu Hart, feuding with George and Sandy Scott.

Miller worked just about every territory you could think of, including Florida, the Mid-South area during the time period Leroy McGuirk was the promoter, St. Louis, Dallas and for The Sheik's area in Michigan.  His most prominent run however, was undoubtedly Jim Crockett Sr.'s Mid-Atlantic Wrestling where he and Les Thatcher were an incredibly popular tag team but were never pushed as the top team, something that was blamed later on locker room politics.  Miller was also the first Mid-Atlantic TV champion.

After retiring, Miller remained behind the scenes working for Crockett Promotions, working under George Scott, the booker of the time and helped promote several of the markets in the territory.  Miller departed Crockett Promotions upon moving to Florida, where he worked for a local electric company .

Miller was inducted into The Mid-Atlantic Legends Fanfest Hall of Heroes in 2013.

On behalf of everyone associated with PWInsider.com, I'd like to express our deepest condoleces to Miller's family, friends and fans.
