Beyond Wrestling "GIGANTIC"

May 29, 2016

Providence, Rhode Island

MATCH ONE: AR Fox v. Jaka

Tale of the Tape - AR Fox has had a prolonged absence from Beyond.  Jaka and his group Team Pazuzu have slowly become fan favorites with the crowd, even though they haven't fit that traditional role lately.  Tonight he did, however, because he came out dancing.

The Match - AR Fox got on the mic and said he just came back from Hollywood so he doesn't need the audience to welcome him back.  Jaka got on the mic and told him to go back to LA.  He also told him when you fly high, you get too close to the sun and you get burned, like he's going to tonight.

Jaka was playing the striker, while Fox did his usual high flying, though he was more aggressive with it and threw in a lot of strikes to get sympathy on his opponent.

As the match progressed, Jaka showed himself to be a great mix of "Pistol" Pez Whatley and Haku, while Fox showed a ton of charisma in addition to being a great high flyer.

Jaka hit a massive tope to the floor that looked to change the match, but when they went back in, it went back and forth.

The Finish - Jaka hit Fox with a double hand choke into a pop-up powerbomb for the win.

WINNER: Jaka

MATCH TWO: Johnny C**kstrong v. Space Monkey

Tale of the Tape - One guy is a monkey from space.  The other has a big member with lights on the front of his tights to point it out.  So there you go.

The Match - They started off the match with Johnny putting a banana in the waistband of his tights and daring Monkey to go after it.  This went on for about a minute.

As for the match itself, well, there was a lot of Johnny using "groin-based" offense against the poor monkey.  Yeah.  Then he tried to get him to eat a banana.  I don't know.  It was goofy, but the crowd was enjoying themselves.

The Finish - Johnny hit a package piledriver for the pin.

WINNER: Johnny C**kstrong

MATCH THREE: Women's Wrestling Revolution Showcase - Veda Scott v. Alexxis

Tale of the Tape - Both women compete for the Beyond-owned Women's Wrestling Revolution, which debuted a couple of months back, and has another show running at the end of July in Providence.

The Match - This saw a lot of good, hard hitting offense between the two of them.  It also was a back and forth affair with both girls trading the advantage.  Alexxis, who is married to Eddie Edwards, also called out a tribute to him by hitting some really hard rapid fire slaps in the corner.

The Finish - Alexxis looked to be going for a package Stunner out of the corner when Veda raked her eyes and hit a bridging German Suplex for the pin.

After The Match - Veda talked about the Women's Wrestling Revolution match from earlier today, calling out the winner LuFisto.  She found out LuFisto left so she said she was a mentor and inspiration for her.  She then pretended to cry before saying she will accomplish WAY more than she will in her career.  She then said she was going to challenge her to a match tonight, but unfortunately, now they'll never wrestle.  This will most likely lead to a match down the line.

WINNER: Veda Scott

MATCH FOUR: Da Hit Squad (Dan Maff & Monsta Mack) v. Tabarnak de Team (Mathieu St-Jacques & Thomas Dubois)

Tale of the Tape - This was an open challenge, so the challengers from Quebec were not revealed until they came out.

The Match - Everything got out of control when St-Jacques wouldn't listen to referee Kevin Quinn.  This got Quinn fired up.  He got on the mic and said if you don't want to listen, this is now a No DQ match.

There wasn't much that was pretty about this match.  The majority of it was spent with both teams slapping, punching and hitting the hell out of each other.  Tabarnak did an excellent job of being loud, obnoxious heels that got a genuine reaction out of the audience.

There were two wild spots with one of the Tabarnak boys hitting a moonsault from the second turnbuckle to the floor.  Then Maff hit a giant tope to the floor.  During the brawl, they put a giant hole in the wall.  A pretty big one.  Oh boy.  I knew this would be aggressive, but not that aggressive.  While it's not great for the promotion and their relationship with the building, you have to commend the realism of the fight.

The Finish - After what can only be described as an insane brawl, Maff finished it off with a Burning Hammer for the win.  All four have to be commended for their effort in this one.  It felt like a legitimate brawl.

WINNERS: Da Hit Squad

MATCH FIVE: House of Glory Showcase Match - Marq Quen v. Chris Seaton v. Ken Broadway v. Sonya Strong

Tale of the Tape - Beyond is debuting in a joint show with NYC-based House of Glory on June 17, so this is a showcase of members of that promotion.

The Match - There was a lot going on in this one.  As tends to happen in a lot of four corner matches, there is constant motion.  Especially when there are no tags involved.  This was three men and one woman.

Sonya would pick her spots throughout this match, usually hitting a move from the top when she had an opening.  This included a diving cross body from the top rope to the floor on all three.

The Finish - After what felt like a tornado of bodies flying through the ring, Marq Quen won the match with an impressive 450 Splash to the delight of the crowd.  A spectacle, but the crowd was super hot for it.

Before the next match could begin, Pinkie Sanchez hit the ring and interrupted ring announcer Rich Palladino.  He got on the mic and said he has some unfinished business with someone in the back.  So he called out Homicide.  Not a good idea.

MATCH SIX: Pinkie Sanchez v. Homicide

Tale of the Tape - Sanchez tried to get his fellow Team Pazuzu members to interfere in the match between Da Hit Squad and Low-Ki & Homicide.  Pazuzu left him out to dry, though, since they were cool with everyone involved.  Now Sanchez is looking to get back in the graces of Team Pazuzu by going against Homicide one-on-one (as misguided as his quest may be).

The Match - Sanchez jumped him before it began to try and get the upper hand, but Homicide chopped Sanchez out of that advantage.

Homicide spent the next ten minutes or so breaking Sanchez down and looking like he enjoyed it.  Sanchez kept doing his best to make a comeback, but "The Notorious 187" wasn't having it.

Homicide went for the Three Amigos.  It turned into Ten Amigos instead with the crowd counting along.  Sanchez was able to get a little momentum, including a top rope dropkick for a two count.

The Finish - Sanchez went to the top and went for another dropkick, but Homicide rolled out of the way.  Sanchez tried to jump over him, but Homicide caught him with the Gringo Killa for the victory.

WINNER: Homicide

MATCH SEVEN - EYFBO (Angel Ortiz & Mike Draztik)  v. Monster Mafia ("All Ego" Ethan Page & Josh Alexander)

Tale of the Tape - EYFBO have been on a very impressive run of matches and victories in Beyond, with teams coming from all over to take them on.  The recently reunited Monster Mafia are another high profile team on that list.

The Match - There was a lot of fun jawing back and forth between the two teams early on, but it didn't go for too long as they transitioned into a traditional tag team match...

Until Ethan Page pulled his pants down and tried to put his butt in Ortiz's face.  It was unsuccessful, however, and Ortiz was spared.  From that point on, EYFBO cut the ring off on Page and continued to work him over until the hot tag and the tables were turned. From there, the match was a wild pendulum.  It was an extremely entertaining tag team match filled with great highspots in the ring and to the floor, with great strikes and double team moves sprinkled in.

The Finish - Draztik caught Alexander on the top rope and hit a moonsault side slam, and Ortiz followed it up with a big splash for the victory.

FOR THE RECORD - I don't know why Team Pazuzu (Ortiz, Draztik AND Jaka) have not been given a look with EVOLVE or Ring of Honor.  They have been entertaining as hell and excellent in the ring since I've started covering Beyond, and are completely underrated talents on the independent scene.

WINNER: Team Pazuzu

MATCH EIGHT: Donovan Dijak v. Keith Lee

Tale of the Tape - Dijak is in the running with Chris Dickinson to be the Ace of Beyond.  Keith Lee is an absolutely giant human being.  This is one of three matches titles "Hoss Fight" to close out the show.  What does that mean?  Giant humans hitting each other hard.

The Match - Dijak said they needed more room, so they went outside of the ring and charged at each other.  Neither man budged.  So Dijak ran all the way toward the door and Lee stood near the ring.  I would say they had a good 40 yards between them.  Dijak charged, and Lee shoulder tackled him into the merch table.

Dijak was playing the unconventional role of being the least strong of the two in the match.  He would be hitting Lee with some really hard shots that would drop his usual opponents and barely making a dent.  He was yelling at Lee to fall down but he couldn't get it done.

There were some really impressive spots from Lee considering his size, including a drop down and a big dropkick, as well as a standing moonsault.  Both got a monster reaction.  Just when I thought I saw it all, Dijak was on the outside when Lee hit an absurd somersault plancha over the top and to the floor.  Unreal.

The Finish - Lee went to go for the Doomsault from the top rope, but Dijak cut him off with a superkick.  He then got him in the Burning Hammer position and finished the match with the Feast Your Eyes (Burning Hammer into a Go 2 Sleep).

WINNER: Donovan Dijak

FOR THE RECORD: This is an incredible spectacle that is worth going out of your way to buy.

MATCH NINE: "Mr. Athletic" Jeff Cobb v. JT Dunn with Special Guest Referee Brian Milonas

Tale of the Tape - JT Dunn assaulted multiple referees last show, so a special giant was called in to keep order.

The Match - It was a slow start between the two as it seemed like they were figuring out each other's pace and style.  Cobb was the heavy, but Dunn was standing toe-to-toe with him.  They were teasing issues between Dunn and Milonas throughout the match, with Milonas being extra forceful in breaking Dunn off of Cobb in certain spots.

Cobb was using his strength and Olympic pedigree to toss Dunn around in certain spots, including a Three Amigos/gutwrench suplex hybrid.  His strength and his ability to hold Dunn for so long was very impressive.

The Finish - Dunn hit a Roaring Elbow for a two count, but he was adamant it was a three count.  He got into a huge yelling spat with Milonas, but backed down when Milonas took a step toward him.  As he turned around, he went after Cobb, but Cobb caught him with a really impressive reverse swinging powerslam for the win.

After The Match: Dunn pushed Milonas.  Milonas responded with a chest bump that floored Dunn, and Dunn walked off.  This should be the start of something between them.

WINNER: "Mr. Athletic" Jeff Cobb

MAIN EVENT: Chris Dickinson v. "Big" Damo O'Connor

Tale of the Tape - Dickinson continues to be in the running with Dijak (and JT Dunn by his own proclamation) as the Ace of Beyond.  Damo has an international reputation as an impressive, hard hitting and tough big man.

The Match -  Lots of posturing early on as well as a lot of stiff shots traded.  If you've never seen Dickinson wrestle, the man is a brute (and a well trained one as a practitioner of multiple martial arts).  This all showed as they went outside of the ring in addition to inside of it trading strikes that seem like they would really hurt.

The story of the match boiled down to who was going to hit the hardest at the right time, as it was a back and forth strong-style battle.

The Finish - Damo hit a big Michinoku Driver when Dickinson kicked out at 1, Hulked up, and hit a big jumping spin kick for the win.  It was a bit anti-climatic, and it seemed like both men didn't have great chemistry together.

After The Match: Dijak came out on the mic and said they have unfinished business that they should take care of right now.  A referee came in and the bell ring.  It looks like it's on when JT Dunn jumps the ref, then drops both Dijak and Dickinson.  He gets on the mic and tells Dijak and Dickinson "f--- you."  He then issues the challenge for Death By Elbow (Dunn & Chris Hero) against Dijak & Dickinson at the next show.

For some reason, Dunn stuck around long enough to eat a enziguiri from Dickinson and a Feast Your Eyes from Dijak.

WINNER: Chris Dickinson

This card had better energy and more overall excitement than its C5 predecessor earlier in the day.  It was another excellent overall card from Beyond!  Check them out @beyondwrestling and on YouTube at Beyond Demand!
