DETAILED RING OF HONOR RESULTS FROM WEST WARWICK, RI

By Paul Crockett on 2016-05-01 01:30:00

Ring of Honor
Conquest Tour
West Warwick, Rhode Island

April 30, 2016

PRE-SHOW: Taeler Hendrix def. Sumie Sakai

MATCH ONE: "The Wildman" Kongo v. Dalton Castle

Tale of the Tape - There isn't any history with these two. You can never go wrong with Dalton Castle opening up any show, though.

The Match - Castle gave Kongo a strong warning before the match: keep your dirty hands off The Boys!  As far as in ring action goes, Castle, who generally relies on power for his big moves, spent the majority of the match attempting to get the 350-pounder off his feet and in the air for a big suplex but kept getting overwhelmed by the size.

The Finish - The size continued to be too much for until Castle was able to avoid a splash by Kongo in the corner.  As "The Wildman" backed out from the turnbuckle, Dalton finally got him up for a German Suplex and bridged for the three count.

WINNER: Dalton Castle

MATCH TWO: Joey Daddiego (with Taeler Hendrix) v. Donovan Dijak (with Prince Nana)

Tale of the Tape - These two have had a long history given their lrun together in the House of Truth.  Ever since then, they have been circling (and colliding with) each other in various cities across the country.  Now they face-off.

The Match - Dijak came in hotter than a pistol given his personal history with Daddiego and was overwhelming him at the beginning.  It wasn't until they went to the floor and Hendrix provided enough of a distraction that Daddiego was able to gain control.

Inside of the ring, Daddiego attempted to keep Dijak floored, but due to the size difference, Dijak continually fought his way back to his feet.  Hendrix attempted to distract Dijak, which led to Nana coming on the apron with her.  One problem: Hendrix can punch, and she punched Nana to the floor.  After a low blow and a roll-up by Daddiego, Nana pulled the ref out of the ring before a three count.

The Finish - Hendrix was on the apron jawing with Dijak when Daddiego went for a forearm.  Dijak moved, Hendrix ate a forearm, and Daddiego walked into the Feast Your Eyes (reverse Burning Hammer into a Go To Sleep) for the win.

WINNER: Donovan Dijak

MATCH THREE: Christopher Daniels v. Lio Rush

Tale of the Tape - Rush was the Top Prospect Tournament winner for 2016 and had an amazing match with Jay Lethal for the ROH Title in Dallas.  After coming up short, he now attempts to climb the ladder in a match with the Ring General Daniels.

The Match - Daniels is the crafty veteran.  He was using every trick of the trade to gain an advantage and keep the faster, younger Rush down.  He was doing everything he could to keep Rush grounded.

The Finish - Rush had his opening and was going up top when Frankie Kazarian stormed the ring and pushed Lio off the ropes for the DQ.

After The Match - Stokely Hathaway got on the mic and told The Addiction that if you want to get in the business of a friend of his, why not make it a tag team match?  While they talked about it on the outside, Lio blindsided them with a wild somersault plancha and the match was on!

WINNER: Lio Rush via DQ

MATCH FOUR: Moose & Lio Rush v. The Additicion

The Match - It was time for Lio Rush to do his best Ricky Morton impersonation and be the babyface in peril as the crafty veteran cut the ring off and worked him over.  They did an excellent job of making the crowd want the hot tag.  When it came, the place exploded.  Moose ran wild and got the crowd chanting "Moose!" for all of his offense, including a nice cross body block after jumping to the top rope with no assistance.

The Finish - Moose hit Daniels with the big spear and Rush put it to bed with a big frog splash elbow off of Moose's shoulders.

After The Match - Daniels & Kazarian jumped Rush and Moose and were able to put Moose out on the outside.  Then Kazarian tombstoned Rush while Daniels simultaneously spiked him off a moonsault.  The Young Bucks came in for the save and ran The Addiction off.

WINNERS: Moose & Lio Rush

MATCH FIVE: ROH World Champion Jay Lethal (with Taeler Hendrix) v. Vinny Marseglia

Tale of the Tape - This is the "Local Underground Championship Challenge" where a local talent gets to challenge the champion.

The Match - Lethal acted very unimpressed with his opponent during his entrance and before the match.  To show how unimpressed he was, he charged Marseglia and stomped a mudhole in him.  Vinny came back with some high flying offense and we were in for a battle.

Lethal took control of the match and was trying to beat a lesson into the local guy for trying to challenge him.  It was all about Lethal's intensity in grinding Vinny down with a lot of basics, but doing it in a way that kept things interesting.  That included a spot where he went to do a flying attack to the outside, but stopped midway through and told off the crowd.

Vinny fired up hard for his comeback and was able to get portions of the crowd on his side.  Unfortunately, due to Lethal's popularity despite being a heel, it was able to have the desired effect of getting the crowd to rally around him fully.

The Finish: Marseglia put up a good fight and tried to trade with Lethal when he ran into two superkicks.  It was followed up with a Lethal Injection for the victory.

After The Match: Hendrix was stomping on Vinny in the corner when Dijak came in for the save.  Lethal went for Lethal Injection, but Dijak blocked it and hit the Feast Your Eyes to a HUGE ovation!

WINNER: Jay Lethal

INTERMISSION

MATCH SIX: Veda Scott v. Mandy Leon v. Jenny Rose

Tale of the Tape - The Women of Honor continue to compete to be the Alpha Female of the promotion.

The Story - The beginning of the match was Leon and Rose fighting over who got to get a piece of Veda, so Veda rolled out of the ring and let them go at it while she went on commentary.  Leon and Rose went at it for a while before Veda came back in.

The Match - Leon had a submission locked in on Rose pretty deep when Veda came into the ring, kicked Leon in the chest and rolled up Rose for the win.

WINNER: Veda Scott

MATCH SEVEN: Delirious v. Silas Young

Tale of the Tape - Silas Young continues his crusade to prove he is the "Last Real Man" in Ring of Honor.  Delirious, through his association with Cheeseburger who Young has had issues with, is out to fight for his friend.

The Match - This was a fun comedy match that got the crowd fired up.  Delirious got pushed to the outside and out popped Cheeseburger in a special black Delirious-inspired mask!  Both Delirious and Cheeseburger did their best to avoid Young's brute force.

The Finish - Silas fought off Cheeseburger and hit the Misery (TKO) for the win.

WINNER: Silas Young

MATCH EIGHT: The All-Night Express v. The Young Bucks

Tale of the Tape - After losing in their chance at the ROH World Tag Team Titles, All Night Express has been trying to make their way back into contention.  The Young Bucks are always in contention here and in New Japan.  Now they meet to decide who moves up the ladder.

The Match - I think I may have seen it but I'm not sure.  I believe I saw The Young Bucks compete in a (somewhat) traditional tag team match.  The ring was cut off on Matt and he sold a good amount of offense from ANX.  After the hot tag, the match went wild.  It was constant motion and double team action from the Bucks with superkicks galore.

The Finish - It was a true Superkick Party that led to the Meltzer Driver for the victory.

After The Match: The Addiction came in and helped ANX in a beatdown of The Bucks.  Moose ran in for the save.  He wound up for a big spear on Daniels, but instead, turned it into a superkick for a huge pop.

WINNERS: The Young Bucks

MATCH NINE: Kamaitachi v. ACH

Tale of the Tape - After finishing as a Young Lion in New Japan and spending the last year in CMLL having outstanding matches with Dragon Lee, Kamaitachi debuts in ROH against the dynamic high flyer ACH.

The Match - Kamaitachi established himself as the hell when he blew off a handshake from ACH before the match.  From there, it was a hard hitting contest between the two.  They were good not to go straight to high flying and let it build before taking to the air.  They were particularly stiff with some of the shots, or at least they were really convincing.  Either way, they blurred the lines really well.

Their not taking to the air paid off when ACH hit his specialty: the springboard on the inside of the second rope into a plancha to the floor!  The crowd went wild!  He then followed it up with a double stomp to Kamaitachi on the apron.

The Finish: Kamaitachi went for a double knee stomp from the top and missed.  ACH followed with an impressive deadlift brainbuster and a 450 Splash for the pinfall.

WINNER: ACH

MAIN EVENT: Motor City Machine Guns v. ReDRagon v. The Briscoes

Tale of the Tape - They are three of the best tag teams in the world.  The Briscoes are heading into next week's Global Wars as the #1 Contenders for War Machine's World Tag Team Titles.  All three want to prove they are the best.

The Match - All six upheld the Code of Honor and shook hands before the match.

This one is a little more difficult to tell because there's so much action going on between so many people.  The early goings of the match saw all three teams have partial control and get in some good double teams moves.

Ten years ago there may have been a lot more high flying between these teams, but they kept it a litte more grounded and much more strong style with their offense.  ReDRagon would go for flash submissions, The Briscoes would hit really hard and the Machine Guns would pick their spots with clever offense and great double teams.

The Finish - Things broke down.  The Briscoes were left in the ring with Shelley and hit a Doomsday Device to win and head into their title match next week very strong.

After The Match: Jay got on the mic and said THAT is why ROH is the best wrestling and that is why ROH has the best tag team wrestling.  He then talked up their title match at Global Wars.  He said it's been too long since they were the champions, so they need to bring those titles back home where they belong.

WINNERS: The Briscoes

Ring of Honor didn't disappoint.  What could have been considered a throwaway house show was a fun, high paced show with a really hot crowd from beginning to end.  They give you a taste of every kind of style, too.  If they run in your area, it's worth every dollar.  You also get a big show feel that has an intimate atmosphere.  It's a really rewarding experience.
