SHAWN MICHAELS AND DX APPEAR - FULL 4/23 MCW RESULTS

By Mike Specian on 2016-04-24 00:08:00

These are tonight’s results from Maryland Championship Wrestling’s (soon to be MCW Pro Wrestling) 2016 Spring Fever Tour.  My apologies if I misspelled any names.

Shawn Michaels was available for photos and autographs from noon-3pm.  X-Pac and Billy Gunn were available for the same before the show.

The show began with a ten bell salute for Balls Mahoney and Chyna.

Match 1: Rayo & Bruiser vs. Guns for Hire - All four are big men except for the diminutive Rayo.  As such, Rayo was dominated for a good chunk of the match by the impressive offense of Guns for Hire.  Bruiser got the hot tag, but a miscue by Rayo took him out and allowed a Doomsday Chokeslam for the win.  Winners: Guns for Hire

Match 2: Facade vs. Chuck Lennox - This might have been a good match with some decent chain wrestling if it was run 50% faster.  It felt like it was in slow motion.  Chuck Lennox wins with the super kick after a mild back-and-forth.

Match 3: Bo Nekoda vs. Nick Burke - Bo Nekoda, of the Appalachian Outlaws, came to the ring with a new member of their faction - Cousin Flynn.  Burke got a lot of babyface offense.  A distraction from outside enables Nekoda to hit a back stabber for the win.  The Appalachian Outlaws beat up on Burke after the match.

Match 4: Kimber Lee vs. Renee Michelle (c) for the MCW  Women’s Championship - Renee Michelle wins with a chaos theory after a decent match.  Renee is striking in person, and obviously athletic.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see her in NXT soon.

Match 5: The Punk Rock All-Stars vs. The Ecktourage (with Kevin Eck) for the MCW Tag Team Championships in a no DQ, no count out match - They used cookie sheets, a trash can, chair, and a ladder on the ramp.  The crowd came alive when one of the All-Stars brought a 2x4 into the ring.  The Guns for Hire tried to interfere and help the Ecktourage, but Bruiser and Rayo stopped them.  There was some good manager interaction at the end.  The Punk Rock All-Stars get the win and the titles after a good finishing sequence.  The crowd popped big for this.

Match 6: Sean Studd vs. Prolix - Sean Studd does a good job of looking like a poor man’s John Studd.  It was there.  Prolix won with a rear choke.

Interview segment: The Winner’s Circle hosted by Pastor Andy Vineberg - This was designed to build heat between two tag teams - F.U. (Fed Up) and The Hell Cats.  One of the dudes from F.U. owned The Hell Cats on the mic.  He cut close to the quick, arguing that the Hell Cats’ wrestling up and down the East Coast doesn’t mean anything when it’s only in front of 50 people.  Their interaction was a little clumsy, but the dislike between them came off as organic.  Fans behind me wondered out loud if this was real.  The dude from F.U. is told that he can’t hit the Hell Cats or he would be fired, so he punches a ringside woman Olivia instead.  He his handcuffed and fired by the man in charge.

Match 7: Fenix Fury vs. Jeremiah - Fenix did some nice aerial moves, but this was otherwise was not noteworthy.  Pastor Vineberg sprayed aerosol into Fenix Fury’s face, allowing Jeremiah to hit a blockbuster-cutter for the win.

Match 8: Lio Rush vs. Ryan McBride (c) for the MCW Championship - This was a decent match until the end, which saw a flurry of fun near falls.  The crowd really got into it.  After a number of rapid counters, McBride hits a cartwheel Death Valley Driver for the win.  Post-match McBride applauded Rush and extended his hand, only to turn it into an FU arm gesture. McBride slapped Rush in the face.  When Rush retaliated, he got beat down by McBride’s King’s Court.  This drew out…

Match 9: DX (Billy Gunn & X-Pac), Brandon Scott & Lio Rush vs. The King’s Court and Ryan McBride - There wasn’t much too this.  X-Pac hit a Bronco Buster and Billy Gunn hit a Famouser within a minute or two.  He did the “I’ve got two words for you” bit at the end of the show.
