Samoa Joe just defeated Finn Balor in Lowell, MA to capture the WWE NXT championship, catching Balor (who was on the top rope) and nailing him with the muscle buster and pinning him clean. WWE cameras were on hand to film the title change, so footage will be integrated into the NXT weekly series.
The title change had been planned for some time. There were plans for Joe to win the WWE NXT championship at the London Takeover event but they were pushed back.
With the NXT title win, Joe becomes the first and only person to hold the Ring of Honor, NXT and TNA championships.
The title change could pave the way for WWE to bring Balor up to the main roster to join Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows, if that is the direction they wish to go in with the former Bullet Club members.
