WRESTLEMANIA 32, MONA FLAMBOYE, DANIEL BRYAN AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2016-04-15 10:00:00

So Dean calls out Brock for almost 2 months. He constantly gets beat down on the way to Mania but he keeps getting advice and new weapons for his arsenal and then in the end he gets to Mania and...loses. Owens beats Sami for the NXT title and puts him on the shelf for a year. Sami comes back to get his revenge on Owens and instead gets put into a 7 person match where he doesn't get his revenge on KO. Shane comes back to take over RAW and is put into a match with the Undertaker where if he wins he gets RAW...and then he loses. AJ is told he is a Rookie and is entering the big time so he goes out to prove his worth at Mania...and loses. Instead of letting Sasha Banks throw down the Divas title and proclaim herself the Women's Champion (much like Shane Douglas with the ECW title) they have it be a company directive that "these are now Women Superstars...treat them with respect" and then they have a man help make the first women's champion (because women can't do it on their own I guess).  Then to top all of that you bring back 4 men who are retired and 2 of them are not medically cleared to ever compete again and they beat humiliate 11 wrestlers who make up your top 3 teams in the company. These 11 men will have no chance to get their heat back either.  So what was the point of Mania...what stars were made that night?

Roman Reigns.

Despite a not very strong build I was optimistic for Mania. But I must say that the show largely fell flat for me. I think it was a result of inexplicable finishes and also the fact that the whole thing took 7 hours. Is 7 hours really WWE trying to provide great value? Or is it a result of something else in your mind? As a fan, I think 7 hours feels like a marathon and it shows that WWE is no longer able to be decisive or compelling in their story telling so they create a 7 hour variety show hoping to satiate everyone. But it just serves too many masters, IMO.

At the end of the day, they wanted to create a massive event because it was their largest crowd ever and they wanted to give fans more than they expected.  I can say that live, I felt the show was far stronger than it came off on TV, but yeah, that last hour was a lot to sit through, because mentally, everyone was conditioned to feel like it was time to leave and then they were there an extra hour.

Any word on Daniel Bryan?

Nothing beyond he's been seen around town in Phoenix at his gym working out.

I'm listening to the Wrestling Album (don't judge me!) and there's a joke in there about a producer named Mona Flamboye.   Who is this and why is this a joke?

It's the name Cyndi Lauper used to produce and perform on the album.

We've seen some call ups from WWE NXT lately but who's the one name you'd like to see on the main roster because they obviously deserve it?

Bayley.
