WHY RYDER'S SHORT IC TITLE RUN WAS A MISTAKE, WRESTLEMANIA TODAY AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2016-04-09 10:00:00

Hello. Would you know who was in charge of the booking of Lesnar Ambrose at WM?  Finlay, HHH, Vince?

At the end of the day, it was Vince McMahon.

I am not a fan of Zack Ryder but was very happy when he won the Intercontinental title; that was a true Wrestlemania moment. But Why the heck did they take it from him the next night? I actually wanted to see what he could do with a title run. What are your thoughts on that situation?

I am with you on it.   To me, they had a nice moment with Zack and he deserved at least a short run with the belt.  Changing it so quickly, especially to Miz, who hasn't had a lot of momentum behind him in a long time, only served to kill off whatever positives Ryder got from the Mania win and hurt the IC belt by bouncing it around.  To me, the only way that Ryder losing that belt would have served a purpose the day after Raw would have been if he had lost it to say, Baron Corbin, as a way to really shoot Corbin up into the stratosphere for his debut.  Miz didn't get that sort of rub from the title win.  Not at all.  So, in my mind, Ryder deserved at least a victory lap.

Do you think that the WWE is done doing post-WrestleMania releases now that the WWE just lets main roster talents' contracts expire these days? Back from 2002 to 2011, it wasn't common for the WWE to do mass cuts. Do you think Triple H is responsible for this change of philosophy?

No, it was just a decision made that the releases bring a negative tone and publicity and it's better to just let contracts expire and let talents move onto the next stage of their lives.

I'm sad to see there is not Wrestlemania today on the schedule this year like last year. It was mostly fluff and filler but I felt that it gave fans a tiny glimpse of what it's like to be at Wrestlemania Access and it always looked a buzz with excitement. Do you know any reason why they aren't doing it this year?

I was told it was just a production decision and it could always resume next year.

Paul Heyman's shocked reaction after Brock Lesnar broke The Streak seemed genuine, but he's so ridiculously good at what he does that I honestly can't tell if he was as surprised as the fans or if he was in on the finish. I'd assume he knew because of how tight he is with Lesnar, but did he?

I am told Heyman was one of the few who knew.
