COURT RULING ALLOWS HOGAN VS. GAWKER RECORDS TO BE SEEN BY THE PUBLIC

By Mike Johnson on 2016-03-16 14:24:00

The attempts of Hulk Hogan's attorneys to keep material related to the Hulk Hogan-Heather Clem sex tape sealed and out of the public eye looks to have failed.

The Tampa Bay Times reported today that a Florida appellate court has sided with their attempts to get the records and ordered today that the records related to the lawsuit be released, overturning a previous order that the records be sealed.  The newspaper had argued to the court that the order sealing the records limited the public's right to information about the case and was too broad to be enforced.

There's no knowledge yet as to what the records could contain but the newspaper theorized they may include the sex tape material that featured Hogan using racist and homophobic slurs that led to WWE severing all ties with him in July 2014 as well as material related to the FBI investigation into the alleged extortion attempts against Hogan.

The Hogan vs. Gawker trial is currently ongoing.  There is no effect to the actual trial as a result of today's ruling as each side had access to the material.  The only difference now is that the material can be public disseminated.  Time will tell what, if anything, the fallout of that will be.
