Why is it that AJ Styles went straight to the main roster but Samoa Joe went to NXT?
For one thing, AJ had more leverage than Joe. He had other suitors so he was able to get a better deal. For another, WWE brought Joe in to work with the younger talent in NXT. I think he has made the most of his opportunity and who knows, maybe will change WWE’s plans for him.
For established performers like Randy Orton and John Cena, how much of their total compensation package are they drawing while rehabbing their respective injuries? And, for someone who has forgotten, can you summarize the components of the typical performer’s compensation package?
The basic contract calls for a downside guarantee, which a talent gets paid if they are out hurt. The more they work shows, the more money they make both because they are working as well as where they get positioned on the card. When a talent gets to Cena and Orton’s level, they get more negotiating power and deviate from the standard deals.
I just don’t see the logic in HHH winning the Rumble as he did? If he won with outside interference a la Vince in 1999 I could understand? But a part time, 46 year old out lasting 29 other guys clean? Really?
I wasn’t a big fan of him winning either, since he is a part timer, but he didn’t exactly outlast anyone. He came out at the end, with a few guys left, and won quickly. Plus, he isn’t Vince McMahon. He’s a big, tough, former champion who is still in great shape. Vince was an older guy that wasn’t a wrestler. Vince had HHH win because he needs the star power for Mania, especially with guys like Cena, Orton and Seth Rollins hurt. It's understandable.
With Brock now wrestling on the occasional house show, do you think if he's gonna be around for another year (with the limited dates) he should wrestle on the occasional RAW to help spike a rating?
Occasionally? Sure but I have no problem with them using him as a “pay only” attraction. If they can use him to sell Network subscriptions and house show tickets, I think that is a smart way to utilize him.
I know you have issue with Orlando continuing to boo Roman, and for the most part I agree with you. Don't you agree though that having him take a 30 minute powder in the back while the match continued only brought the crowd down on him harder. Don’t you think they have a right to hate that he isn’t out their for the long haul. It wasn't that long ago he sold a bump outside the ring for so long the fans began chanting "Roman’s sleeping".
That crowd was coming down on him from the start but yes, having him walk out of the arena on his own power was bad, bad booking. If he were taken out on a stretcher, only to fight his way back, that would have been effective. As you said, having him walk out of the building made him look wimpy because if he walked out, he could have walked back to the ring and fought. That was the wrong way to book that, for sure.
