What is with the fans hating Roman Reins? When I watch this guy perform in the ring, I see a man who has busted his butt to improve, brings intensity, and works at getting himself better and better. It seemed like last year Roman had his title run pushed back so that the fans could get back behind him, and then when he is put back into the Wrestlemania main event, the fans have turned on him again. I get that the fans were upset last year that Daniel Bryan didn’t win the Rumble, I get that people want Dean Ambrose at the top right now, but I cannot help but feel that Roman could deliver the best match in WWE history, give the best promos, and be greater than Cena, Hogan, Austin, and the Rock combines, and people are going to boo him and say he’s not worthy. Would Vince listen to the fans more if some of them just got over themselves and applaud Roman for the great work he has done? It wasn’t that long ago that the fans voted him Superstar of the Year.
I get why this time last year the fans revolted against Roman. Vince McMahon made the ill-advised move of bringing Daniel Bryan back for The Royal Rumble and having him lose quickly. The fans took that out on the guy he chose to win. WWE then changed direction and didn’t push Roman to the moon. I feel over the year, he worked hard, took his lumps and did all he could to earn a push. I don’t get the hate for him now. Some people have said that they don’t see him as a main-eventer. OK, fine, then don’t react. But to boo him? He doesn’t deserve it in my opinion. A lot of fans have been calling for change at the top of the card. WWE gives it to them, then they complain it’s not the guy they want. Again, I get that, but I think it’s a lot more fair to give the guy a chance and appreciate the hard work he has put in.
What does it say when a title match is put on a "kickoff" show, and pointless, meaningless matches are put on the main PPV?
WWE would say it is a great draw to get people to watch the PPV. Personally, I agree with you. I don’t like Title matches on the free show. With that said, you need “pointless” matches on PPVs sometimes, especially as comedown matches.
Why put a match on a PPV, and then have the same match the next night on Raw? What does that accomplish?
I have always been critical of that from the standpoint of someone that buys the Network. The flip side is that TV rights payments are their number one source of revenue, so they also have to serve that master as well and offering a “PPV quality match” is a way to do that.
What is the advantage of announcing the new Hall of Fame inductees on the WWE website hours before RAW starts? Wouldn't it make more sense to keep it a surprise and announce it some time during the 3rd hour of RAW, which is usually a time when a lot of the viewers tune out?
The idea is to draw traffic to their social media and website, as well as get publicity. I think it makes sense. If you see that Sting is going into the Hall Of Fame on your Twitter feed, and you are a fan, it will probably make you tune into Raw if you weren’t going to.
Do you think WWE would consider farming Daniel Bryan out to indie shows for autograph signings and appearances? It seems that at least Triple H understands that enriching the entire business is a winning long-term strategy for WWE, and I’d have to think that promoters would jump at the chance to have Bryan appear. Also, for those shows talent would have the opportunity to work in front of a larger crowd (because obviously Bryan would draw) and sit under the learning tree of someone who’s been at the very top of the industry, and Bryan has long-since spoken about his love of independent wrestling and wanting to contribute to its success. Would today’s WWE consider this type of arrangement?
I don’t see any reason for WWE to do that. NXT? Sure. Even groups they have a relationship with, like Evolve? Sure. But WWE doesn’t need to send their guys to the indies. The indies need to develop talent and get it on WWE’s radar.
