OWENS VS. ZAYN AT WRESTLEMANIA, BISCHOFF RUNNING A WRESTLING COMPANY, TNA SEEKING INVESTORS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2016-03-03 10:01:00

Who do you hire to run a wrestling company today if your only choices are Eric Bischoff or Vince Russo?

I'd consider Eric Bischoff even if the only other choice was Russo.  I know this won't be a popular comment in some circles, but I do have a lot of respect for Bischoff and what he accomplished.  He was and likely will be the only person to ever build a legitimately competitive company that took WWE and made them the secondary pro wrestling company in the eyes of the general public.  Bischoff, at the time, was ferocious and while he downplays it not, he was out to destroy WWE and owned it.  He was brazen but he also had a battle plan and made it work.  I think that if he ever finds the right backing and TV deal comes up with a battle plan that plays upon elements of wrestling that aren't being used by WWE today (as opposed to playing off the same elements with older, already exposed talents, as he did in TNA), there's certainly a chance he could turn heads again.  He knows how to produce TV.  Whether you like him or not, that's just the truth.

If TNA are looking for investors, does this mean they are going out of business?

One never knows what's going to happen but looking for investors in order to build your company is a business move that a lot of companies undertake, even if it's getting a line of credit from a bank.  WWE did it in the late 1990s.  It doesn't mean the company is for sale, although as I wrote last week, if the right offer comes along....

Where's Gary Michael Cappetta?  I always liked him as a ring announcer.

I agree.  He was great.  Cappetta lives in the Northeast and I believe is working as a teacher. He makes appearances from time to time at wrestling conventions selling merchandise he's collected from his career as well as his autobiography Bodyslam!, which is a great read.

Any chance of Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens at Wrestlemania?

I think so.  Zayn is booked for the 3/12 WWE Roadblock event in Toronto, so if they were going to shoot an angle, a live broadcast in Canada would be the place to shoot it.  I can really see it happening.  I'd be shocked if WWE passed up the chance because at the end of the day, it's a great story and they did already start to tell it at the 2016 Royal Rumble.

Whatever happened to Adam Pearce and Colt Cabana?

Pearce is a Coach for NXT.  Cabana is still working the independent scene and recording his "Art of Wrestling" podcast.
