COMPLETE ROH-NEW JAPAN WAR OF THE WORLDS COVERAGE FROM PHILADELPHIA

By Mike Johnson on 2015-05-12 19:44:00

We are live in Philadelphia, PA for Night One of ROH War of the Worlds at the 2300 Arena!

Adam Cole came to the ring and cut a promo saying that it was announced he would be returning to the ring tomorrow in a six man tag.  He said that wasn't true and he would not be returning tomorrow.  He said that AJ Styles wasn't supposed to have a mystery opponent, but his doctor and ROH wanted him to come back slowly from his arm surgery.  He said they could kiss his ass because he was returning to the ring tonight against AJ Styles.  He said he won the ROH title in Philly and tonight he starts his run to redemption when he defeats Styles.  He announced he's back.

Bobby Cruise counted everyone down to an official opening for the show, which will be edited and released at www.ROHWrestling.com via VOD ASAP.  The crowd chanted "ROH" then "New Japan.

Gedo vs. Delirious

Battle of the bookers!

Delirious was, as always, out of his mind and there was a lot of antics early.  Gedo shoulderblocked Delirious down but Delirious used several counters from another attempt and they faced off.  Delirious whipped Gedo into the corner but was kicked off.  Gedo nailed a superkick as Delirious was in a sitting position.   Gedo choked him against the ropes.   He then stomped Delirious' bare feet and nailed several jabs.    Delirious came back with a flying clothesline.

Delirious followed up with a running clothesline in the corner and a neckbreaker, followed by an elbow for a two count.   Delirious locked on a Cobra Clutch.  Gedo used a low blow and used a cradle combination for the pin.

A little silliness mixed in with some solid wrestling.  A nice combination.

The venue is as packed as I've ever seen it with a lot of people standing.

Former EVOLVE champion AR Fox is backstage.

  KUSHIDA vs. Roderick Strong

They started out with some nice back and forth wrestling as Stong tried to focus on KUSHIDA's arm.  They ended up trading reversals and facing off.  KUSHIDA took Strong down to the mat and spun around his back to show him who was boss.  Strong came back with a nice tilt-o-whirl backbreaker.   KUSHIDA nailed a Pele Kick, sending Strong to the floor.  He teased a dive but Strong moved out of the way.  They returned to the ring where Strong worked over KUSHIDA.

KUSHIDA made a comeback but was trapped in a variation of the Tarantula when he went for a handspring kick.   Storng nailed a suplex into a backbreaker and continued mauling KUSHIDA's back.  He scored several two counts.  Strong followed up with a dropkick.  Strong scored several more nearfalls as the crowd tried to rally KUSHIDA.    He scored several kicks followed by a springboard knee and a springboard elbow for a two count.

KUSHIDA began working over Strong's arm and shoulder.  Strong was sent to the floor  KUSHIDA stood on the top and dove off the ringpost with a flying bodypress to the floor.  KUSHIDA followed up with a dropkick as Strong returned to the ring and nailed a moonsault for a two count.

He drilled a running knee into Strong's shoulder.  They battled back and forth with forearms and knees.  Roderick nailed a leaping knee and the placed erupted with a "Holy sh**" chant.   They went down to their knees and chopped and kicked each other as they stood on their feet.  They battled to the top where Strong nailed a superplex while standin on the top himself for a two count.  The crowd chanted, "This is awesome."

Strong nailed a gutbuster and a running leg lariat for a two count.  He nailed a brainbuster into a backbreaker and finally scored the pin.

Your winner, Roderick Strong!

Sooo Great.  Just an awesome back and forth great athletic bout.

ROH TV champion Jay Lethal vs. Watanabe

Lethal cut a promo saying the title that Jay Briscoe holds doesn't compare to his TV title.  He said that the last time they were face to face, the fans chanted "Man Up."   He ripped on Briscoe.  They are obviously setting up champ vs. champ for down the line.  Watanabe killed Lethal early with suplex after suplex.

They went to the floor where Watanabe cracked Lethal with a beyond stiff forearm.  Lethal nailed a springboard dropkick for a two count.  Watanabe used a sick head and arms Tazplex to the floor.  He brought Lethal back to the ring and stomped him hard.  Truth Martini distracted Watanabe, allowing Lethal to nail him from behind.  Lethal nailed a series of suicide dives to the floor.  Lethal whipped him into the guard rails.

Lethal worked over Watanabe for a long time, scoring several two counts.   The crowd chanted "Man Up" to get under his skin.  Watanabe made a comeback after Lethal missed a charge in the corner. Watananbe cleaned house on Lethal, throwing him from pillar to post.  Did I really just write that?  I know Bill Apter is here but now he's rubbing off on me!

Lethal was nailed with a neckbreaker and set up for a superplex.  Lethal fought him off and teased a big move, but jumped down to screw with the crowd.  Lethal worked him over but was caught on the top.  Watanabe nailed a forearm but Martini interfered.  Lethal nailed him with the handspring cutter and scored the pin.

Your winner and still ROH TV champion Jay Lethal!

A good competitive bout.

ROH champ Jay Briscoe immediately hit the ring.  Lethal and Martini fled the ring.
