DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 23
Welcome to Week 23 of 2013. This week we started June, as we are almost half-way finished with 2013. So, the Mid-Year Report will be coming at the end of the month. Also, next week will be our next Pay-Per-View of the month, WWE Payback. Now, to this week’s news & notes.
On Raw, we saw our 6th straight 6-Man Tag Team Match in a row, as Team Hell No teamed with Randy Orton for the 1st time against The Shield. Raw also saw several re-matches to start the May-June Re-Match list. First, for the 1st time since Saturday Morning Slam on May 4, The Usos wrestled The Prime Time Players. Then, we saw Alberto Del Rio VS Big E. Langston for the 5th time in 2 weeks. They have wrestled each other on Raw and Smackdown for the last 2 weeks, as well as Main Event, since May 20. The only Smackdown they didn’t wrestle on was May 24. One match that wasn’t a re-match on Raw was Sheamus VS Cody Rhodes, who haven’t wrestled each other since their 3 match series back in February. The other non-re-matched match on Raw saw The Great Khali VS Fandango. Even though WWE.com called it a No Contest, Fandango left the ring and was counted out, when The Miz and Wade Barrett came out, therefore the match was a Count Out victory for The Great Khali. This was the 2nd week in a row that Raw had a Count Out. The next match on Raw was the 1st match to be re-matched in March, April, May, & June, as The Miz wrestled Wade Barrett. They last competed on Smackdown on May 24. Raw saw our 2nd 6-Person Tag Team Match of the night, as Kaitlyn & The Funkadactyls took on The Bella Twins & AJ Lee in a re-match from Raw on May 6, which was the last time that Raw had 2 6-Person Tag Team Matches. The next match saw a re-match from Smackdown on May 3, as Daniel Bryan wrestled Ryback, which ended by Disqualification. Bryan became the 1st person since Kofi Kingston & Dean Ambrose on Smackdown on May 24 to wrestle twice on the same show. That date was also the last time that there was both a Disqualification and a Count Out. The main event of Raw was a re-match from last Monday’s Raw, as John Cena wrestled Curtis Axel, in Axel’s 3rd main event in a row. The match was a No Disqualification Match, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 93 overall and 55 for WWE. It was the 1st No Disqualification Match since the Extreme Rules Match between Randy Orton and The Big Show at Extreme Rules on May 19. The match ended by Count Out since it was no disqualifications, but not no count outs, giving us our 2nd Count Out of the night and 2nd week in a row that Raw ended with a Count Out. It was the 1st time since March 25 that Raw had 2 Count Outs on it.
On Main Event, we saw Sheamus VS Antonio Cesaro. This was the 2nd week in a row that Sheamus competed in the opening match of Main Event. It was also the 2nd week in a row that Cesaro competed on Main Event. The 2nd match on the show saw The Usos VS Team Rhodes Scholars. This was 1st time that Damien Sandow has wrestled on Main Event since February 6. The Usos last competed on the show on May 8 and Cody Rhodes last competed on the show on May 15. The final match of Main Event saw Justin Gabriel, in his 2nd week in a row on the show, take on Curt Hawkins, in his 1st match on regular WWE TV since Saturday Morning Slam on February 9, where he also lost to Gabriel. This doesn’t include Hawkins’ matches on NXT in the last few weeks.
On NXT, we saw the 1st match of the 1st Round of the NXT Women’s Championship Tournament, as Paige wrestled Tamina Snuka. This was Tamina’s 1st match on NXT since January 2 when she defeated Sasha Banks. We also saw Mason Ryan wrestle Colin Cassady, in Cassady’s in-ring debut, becoming the 1st person to debut in June. This was Ryan’s 3rd week in a row on NXT. The next match saw Alex Riley VS Conor O’Brian. This was Riley’s 1st match on NXT since losing to Corey Graves on February 13. The final match of NXT was the NXT Tag Team Championship Match between the 1st time partners of Corey Graves & Kassius Ohno and The Wyatt Family. This brought the title match count to 73 overall and 44 for WWE. This was the 1st time that the NXT Tag Titles were on the line since Harper & Rowan won the titles on NXT on May 8. This was also the 3rd week in a row that Corey Graves competed on NXT.
On Impact, we started the road to Bound For Glory as we had 2 Bound For Glory Series Qualifying Matches. The 1st one was Chavo Guerrero VS Hernandez and the 2nd one saw Robbie E’s 1st match since May 2, as he wrestled Samoa Joe. Impact also saw the 1st 6-Man Tag Team Match since Slammiversary, as Gunner, James Storm, & Chris Sabin took on Austin Aries, Bobby Roode, & Kenny King. Impact also saw the return of Taeler Hendrix, who has not competed since November of 2012, as she wrestled Mickie James. The final match on Impact saw a Ladder Match between Jeff Hardy and Bully Ray. This brought the Gimmick Match count to 94 overall and 39 for TNA. This was the 1st Ladder Match for TNA in 2013. This was the 3rd time that Hardy & Ray wrestled each other in 2013 and all 3 matches have been Gimmick Matches. They wrestled in a Steel Cage Match at Lockdown on March 10 and in a Full Metal Mayhem Match on April 11. Even though the bell never rang, since the object of the match was to climb the ladder and retrieve the hammer, Bully Ray did it, so therefore he gets the win and Hardy gets a loss.
On Superstars, we saw Tons Of Funk wrestle Epico & Primo. This was Tons of Funk’s 1st match on Superstars since May 23 and Epico & Primo’s 1st match on the show since April 18. Besides a match on NXT, this was Epico & Primo’s 1st match on WWE TV since Smackdown on April 19. The other match on Superstars saw Natalya VS Tamina Snuka, in the 1st Diva’s Match on Superstars since May 23. This was Tamina’s 1st match on Superstars since May 2. This was Natalya’s 1st match on Superstars since April 18, which was also the last time that both of these matches took place on Superstars, but since they didn’t wrestle each other in May, they are not counted as re-matches. Tamina Snuka became the 1st person since Kaitlyn on the week of April 25 that someone wrestled on both NXT & Superstars in the same week.
On Smackdown, we saw Chris Jericho wrestle Curtis Axel. This was Axel’s 3rd match on Smackdown and the 1st time that he didn’t wrestle Sin Cara on Smackdown. The next match was supposed to be Alberto Del Rio VS Heath Slater, in Del Rio’s 1st match where his opponent wasn’t Big E. Langston since Extreme Rules on May 19. The match doesn’t count since 3MB attacked Del Rio before the referee rang the bell, therefore neither Del Rio and Slater get a win or loss. We saw Kane VS Ryback for the 2nd time, as they last wrestled on Raw on May 6. The match ended by Disqualification, marking the 2nd time this week that Ryback lost to a member of Team Hell No by Disqualification. We had another match added to the re-match count, as this was the 2nd time that Zack Ryder wrestled Fandango. They last wrestled on Smackdown on May 3. The main event of Smackdown saw the 1st time teaming of Daniel Bryan & Randy Orton against The Shield’s Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins. The match ended by Disqualification, giving us Reigns & Rollins’ 1st loss as a tag team and giving us our 2nd DQ of the night. This was the 2nd Smackdown in a row to have 2 Disqualifications on it. This was the 1st Smackdown since May 10 to have only 4 matches on it. That date was also the last time that Randy Orton was not in the main event, as this week marked his 4th straight week that he wrestled in the main event of Smackdown.
