RANDY "MACHO MAN" SAVAGE PASSES AWAY

Former WWF and WCW World champion Randy Savage passed away on Friday morning after a medical incident caused a car wreck.  According to TampaBay.com, local authorities noted that Savage lost control of his Jeep Wrangler, which crashed over a median into oncoming traffic and into a tree. It is believed a heart attack was the cause of the crash but that cannot be confirmed until an autopsy is completed. Lanny Poffo told TMZ.com it was a heart attack.

Savage's wife of one year, Lynn, suffered minor injuries in the crash and was later released from the hospital. Both Lynn and Randy were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. Our deepest condolences go out to Lynn and Lanny as well as the rest of their friends and family.

Savage's passing became a huge mainstream story internationally with mentions of on nightly newscasts in the United States, Germany, Canada and the UK, among other countries. There were numerous radio stations in the NYC area playing tribute to him and obviously, he was trending on Twitter. The AP and TV Guide featured stories up as well.

The Washington Post featured a quote from Dusty Rhodes on the passing of Randy Savage: “There’s probably five or six of us, with Andre (the Giant) and (Hulk) Hogan and thankfully myself and (Ric) Flair, that, when their names pop up, even if you’re not a fan, you know who in the hell these people are. You say, ‘I know this guy. I know Macho Man Randy Savage.’ He was part of that breed. We lost a good one.” Click here to read the article.

Brian Thompson sent the following....The passing of "Macho Man" Randy Savage received coverage during last night's broadcast of the Major League Baseball game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals on Fox Sports Midwest. Savage's death and career were briefly discussed during the actual game and then a graphic of the "Macho Man's" Minor League career as a Cardinal was shown during "Cardinals Live!," a post-game show that recaps the game.

Brian Webster sent the following....Every week during Bellator Fighting Championships on MTV2, the play by play announcers has a live commercial read for TNA Impact complete with a graphic popping up on the screen which used to just feature Hulk Hogan but since the Network reveal now also features Foley.On Saturday night, after this week's promo read including mentioning the name change, Angle vs RVD for the first time on Impact and Bischoff trying to destroy the X Division, the announcers paid tribute to the late Randy Savage.  Color man Jimmy Smith said: "I hope we see some flying elbows today in honor of Randy 'Macho Man' Savage. One of my favorites man. Rest in peace."  Play by play man Sean Wheelock followed up, saying: "Sadly passed away yesterday at the age of 58. His feud when I was a kid with George 'The Animal' Steele was one of the greatest in the history of pro wrestling,"

Dave Whitaker sent the following....I just now had time to watch Friday's Pardon The Interruption on ESPN. During the end segment, Tony Korhnhiser said "a melancholy happy trails to Randy 'Macho Man' Savage." Kornhiser noted that while Savage was forever associated with pro wrestling, he was also a minor league baseball player. He then asked Michael Wilbon, whom Kornhiser said was was a wrestling, what he thought of Savage. Wilbon said Savage was responsible for bringing back the old school concept of valets with Elizabeth, something not seen since the days of Gorgeous George. When they went to Tony Reali to find out what they messed up, Reali kissed his arms and said "Oh Yeah!"

Former TNA Star Jay Lethal will be paying tribute to Savage at the Florida Underground Wrestling event on Tuesday 5/24 in Largo, FL.

WWE opened their Over the Limit PPV with a graphic in honor of Savage's passing.
