COMPLETE WWE OVER THE LIMIT PPV REPORT: CENA VS. MIZ I QUIT, ORTON VS, CHRISTIAN II, HALL OF FAMER MAKES SURPRISE APPEARANCE AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2011-05-22 22:15:00
Todd Grisham interviewed World champion Randy Orton and his challenger tonight, Christian. Grisham asked whether the title loss ate away at Christian Christian said he isn’t mad at anyone because Orton didn’t do anything he wouldn’t have done tonight and he’d probably be freaking out if he didn’t know he was going to get his belt back. Orton told him he was a great competitor and he’d make a great story, but when he loses. Christian said that he’s not going to lose. Orton said that he better because when he fights a feel good story, it doesn’t end well.

Alberto Del Rio came out for a promo. He said he wanted to talk about destiny and then complained about Canadians illegally entered the United States in the Northwest. That was pretty funny. He said that he’s not angry and really doesn’t care because it’s their destiny to end up in a coffee house in Seattle complaining about the weather and their miserable lives. He claimed that he’s not upset that he’s not in the WWE title match because he knows he could make Miz and Cena both quit to the cross armbreaker. He said if he was in the main event, they’d be crying “No Mas, Alberto” and it’s just a matter of time before he takes his rightful place as the WWE champion. Del Rio said that destiny cannot be stopped because it’s his destiny….

Out came the WWE Tag Team champions, Kane and Big Show. Kane said he was upset the Rapture didn’t come yesterday and if Del Rio didn’t leave, he was going to get what Otunga and McGuillicuty got. Show said that was a punch in the face. Del Rio left. Cole said they were picking on him. Is it smart to use that terminology just a few segments after you push the anti-bullying campaign?

WWE Tag Team champions, Kane and Big Show vs. CM Punk and Mason Ryan

Ryan and Kane started out. Fans are chanting “Batista”. Ryan showed off some power early. Punk tagged in and Show nailed him with several chops in the corner. Punk tried to cover up so he got chopped in the back.

Show went Punk into the corner but Punk dropkicked his leg. Ryan and Punk tagged in and out working over Show. Punk covered him but Show kicked out hard and Punk sold the chest when he landed hard on the mat. Show bearhugged Punk while Kane nailed a running boot to the head.

Kane nailed a running clothesline in the corner and a sideslam for a two count. Kane nailed his top rope clothesline and teased a chokeslam. Ryan distracted the referee by trying to get into the ring, allowing Punk to kick Kane, who was watching Ryan. Kane was dumped to the floor, where Ryan rammed him backward into the ring barrier.

Ryan controlled Kane when they returned to the ring, peppering him with bodyshots as Punk held him in the corner. Punk went for a bulldog out of the corner but was sent into the champs’ corner. He saved himself before Show could nailed a punch. Ryan nailed Kane with a running powerslam.

Ryan clinched Kane in a bearhug in the center of the ring. Kane fought off Punk and made the hot tag to Show. Show cleaned house on Ryan and went for a double chokeslam. They kicked him off. Show nailed them both. Kane and Show double chokeslammed Ryan and scored the pin. Punk was crying on the floor.

Your winners, WWE Tag Team champions Kane and Big Show!

Nothing much here.

Lots of Randy Savage signs in the crowd. Punk was pulling out some Savage mannerisms during the bout, including a top rope elbow, which missed.

They aired a completely goofy PPV for the Capitol Punishment show with real Barack Obama footage responding to questions about WWE.

WWE Divas champion Brie Bella vs. Kelly Kelly

Brie attacked Kelly imnmediately. Kelly kicked her as she ran into the corner and choked her, using the ropes for leverage. Kelly came off the top with a flying bodypress for a two count.

Kelly was backdropped onto the apron and knocked off to the floor. Bella stomped Kelly’s hand, then nailed her as she tried to pull herself back into the ring. Bella covered Kelly for a two count.

Bella worked over Kelly’s arm. Kelly made a comeback and slammed her head into the mat over and over. Bella tried to escape the ring but was stomped. The Bella switched, allowing Nikki to nail the Faceplant and score the pin.

Your winner, Brie Bella!

The announcers mentioned that Kharma had been stalking Kelly but didn’t show her face tonight.

At the halfway point, a very "eh" PPV. Nothing of any real note, especially at a $45 price tag.

World champion Randy Orton vs. Christian

They did some nice back and forth wrestling early. Slighr Christian chant. Christian scored a two count coming off the ropes. They went back and forth with a nice pace. Christian backdropped him to the floor and hit a dropkick through the ropes to the floor. You can see WWE is using more close up shots for spots out of the ring. It’s going to get some taking used to. They are also doing a lot more replays than they had been doing of late.

Christian locked in a chinlock. Orton fought his way out but Christian cut that off, snapmared him and went back into the rear chinlock. Orton escaped and nailed a standing dropkick. Christian drilled him with a right hand and went to the top rope. Orton cut him off and nailed a superplex with both men standing on the top rope. Orton covered Christian, who kicked up at the last second.

Orton took over with a series of rights but was caught with a spinebuster for a two count. This is far and away the best thing on the show. VERY FAR AND AWAY. They exchanged shots in the center of the ring. Christian nailed a leaping forearm followed by an inverted DDT for a two count.

Christian went for a missile dropkick but Orton caught him and went for a forward rollup. Christian turned it into a sunset flip pinfall attempt. Nice sequence. Christian ended up on the outside. Orton went for the hanging DDT but Christian escaped and nailed him. Christian nailed a flying headbutt off the top for a two count.

Orton drilled Christian with his backbreaker, then used the Garvin stomps. He nailed a big kneedrop for another two count. Christian and Orton went for their finishers. Orton then used a reverse Boston Crab for a submission, which came off great. Christian finally made it to the ropes. This is a great match.

Big “Let’s go Christian” chant. The announcers tried to say it was a split crowd but I heard nothing for Orton. Orton whipped him into the corner but was kicked off. Christian went for a top rope sunset flip but Orton kicked up at the last second. Christian drilled him with a right but was sent into the corner. Christian tried to fight out of it but Orton snapped him with the hanging DDT.

Christian kicked up from the move. Orton went for the RKO but was shoved off. He started calling for a spear. He went for it but was snapped into a powerslam for another two count. Orton teased the punt kick but stopped, having second thoughts. He finally decided to go through with it but was speared for another two count.

They went back and forth reversing finishers until finally, Orton drilled Christian with the RKO.

This was awesome. They wrestled like two guys fighting for something they were desperate to have. They had a ton of great sequences and near falls, pushing each other out of their comfort zone with lots of moves they usually wouldn’t pull out. Far and away, the best and most memorable thing on this PPV.
