ANOTHER QUALIFIER FOR MITB, EDGE VS. BATISTA, MATT HARDY IN ACTION: 3/8 SMACKDOWN/ECW RESULTS FROM OSHKOSH, WI

By Greg Davis on 2008-03-09 09:43:00
SmackDown/ECW Live report from Oshkosh, WI, March 8, 2008.

Armando Estrada began the event by announcing the night's top matches.

Match 1 - Chavo Guerrero defeated CM Punk with a rollup while pulling the tights AND holding the ropes to retain the ECW Championship.

Match 2 - Finlay defeated Chuck Palumbo after using his shillelagh.

Match 3 - Matt Hardy defeated Kevin Thorn w/ Matt Striker after a twist of fate. Thorn looks vastly different from even his more recent look on TV.

Match 4 - Jesse and Festus defeated Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder after Festus hit his finisher on one of the EdgeHeads. Afterward, the two brought a kid in the ring, and Jesse and the kid had some fun with Festus.

Match 5 - Kane defeated the Big Show by DQ after Show used a chair.

Kelly Kelly threw out some T-shirts prior to intermission.

Match 6 - MVP defeated Jamie Noble with a kick to the head to qualify for the Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania.

Match 7 - Tommy Dreamer defeated Shelton Benjamin with a rollup while holding the tights.

Match 8 - Edge defeated Batista to retain the World Heavyweight Championship following a spear. Lots of stalling by Edge. At one point, Edge left, only to be confronted by Theodore Long, who threatened to strip Edge of the title if he intentionally got himself DQed or counted out. The Edgeheads did interfere and setup Edge's spear.

Justin Roberts served as ring announcer ... Most of the floor seats were reserved seating, while the remaining floor seats, and all the bleachers, were general admission ... Originally scheduled for the main event was Kane, Batista, and Rey Mysterio vs. Edge, Curt Hawkins, and Zack Ryder, which later became Kane and Batista vs. Edge and the Big Show, which of course ended up being Edge vs. Batista ... Hornswoggle was at the show, as he could be seen driving into the parking lot. Considering most of the local articles were centered around the Oshkosh native, it was odd that he didn't appear, although considering his storyline, it did make sense ... There was a ringside photographer for the MVP/Noble match, so I expect photos of Porter's qualification to appear on WWE.com soon ... Show started a little past 7:30 and went well over three hours ... No shows from the released lineup were Hornswoggle, Mark Henry, Victoria, Big Daddy V, and Kofi Kingston.
