Impact Thoughts
The Matches
The concept of the Alex Shelley versus Chris Sabin match was good. The execution of the match probably would have been good. What we saw was a brief period where they wrestled and the fans were behind them. Then Team 3D decided to attack them to destroy the X Division.
The Madison/Kong match was good. They are doing a great job of building the next match between Kong and Gail Kim for the Women’s Title. Kong has shown that she is able to dominate the women in the division in a one-on-one situation so it will be interesting to see how Gail Kim tries to stop her. I just hope the women’s division is not turned into Gail and Kong on top and everyone else just there to be fed to both women.
The Storm and Roode versus Harris and Rhino match was okay, but it seemed like the match was only there to advance a potential feud between Harris and Rhino. If Harris is going to turn, does that mean that we will see a reunion of America’s Most Wanted?
The match between Kazarian and Hoyt could have been so much better. Why did Christy Hemme come into the ring during the match? Is Frankie Kazarian going to be taking over the ‘That 70s Guy’ gimmick from Mike Awesome with the women?
They make a big deal about Glen Gilberti/Disco Inferno’s return and then he is beaten in less than two minutes. What is next for TNA, a story about the great history of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays? Is D-Ray 3000 sitting by the phone now?
The main event was the match of the night because it was given a lot of time. However, did they need to do a rematch for a match that brought Joe near the level he should be at only to knock him down a few levels? So it took A.J. Styles, Tomko, and Robert Roode to help Christian beat Joe, Joe still lost to the man he beat on Sunday night. Why have a referee bump because the match at the pay per view was great for the lack of unnecessary shenanigans.
The Angles [Kurt and Karen]
I counted nine different segments during the show where the Kurt Angle/Kevin Nash situation was covered. This does not include the brief mention by Crystal about Sting’s response to Kurt’s challenge for the title. I felt that most of the segments were not entertaining. If Karen is supposed to be the ‘supportive wife’, why is she laughing at her husband? What is the reason for the link between Kevin Nash and porn? It wasn’t funny the first time it was mentioned and I thought for a minute that PETA was going to start protesting the show for Angle beating a dead horse with the joke. Of all of the people who might know about Sting, they go to Black Reign? Why not have them ask Abyss since Abyss is supposed to be ‘close to Sting’? What about Christopher Daniels because Daniels was involved in an angle with Sting? If Angle collapsed when he got out of the wheelchair, how was he able to get up and walk without any ill effects? Maybe Kurt should watch some FIP DVDs to see how Mr. Milo Beasley works the wheelchair.
Other Thoughts and Observations
Haven’t we already seen someone try to destroy the X Division? I guess now that Kevin Nash is going to destroy the Heavyweight Title, I guess someone needs to take care of the X Division.
Shouldn’t they have explained why there was a woman on the rail all night with a sign that read ‘President of the Robert Roode Fan Club’ especially during the matches and segments where Robert Roode was involved?
What happened to the push that everyone expected that Chris Harris would get after his feud with James Storm and his performance in the King of the Mountain Match at Slammiversary?
Wasn’t Christy Hemme twisted into a pretzel at Bound for Glory and taken from the ring by the medical staff? At least she was in a neck brace or a back brace or in a wheelchair after that attack. I guess Kurt Angle got the wheelchair and Shark Boy is not done with the neck brace.
Did they really give Glen Gilberti an interview? I guess if Nash is going to get back into the ring, why not Gilberti. Is Mike Jackson next? What about the Mulkeys?
Along with forgetting about the mention of the ‘fan’ who is a Robert Roode fan, why didn’t they mention the new referee?
The title presentation segment was good. Gail was great in her promo about winning the title and along with James Cornette’s comments, they did a lot to elevate the women’s title. A.J.’s promo was just as good. He appears to have taken a lot of features from Alex Shelley’s promos by injecting some in jokes that go over most of the viewer’s heads but they are still funny. Of course Christian and Angle had to stake their claims for the title during this segment to honor the people who really have the titles.
When the Fight for the Right Tournament was announced, I wondered if it would be open to people who were scheduled for other matches on the Bound for Glory card, and they found a way to get two people into the tournament. Why not do what has been done in the past and give the person who won the other match in that part of the bracket a bye into the following round?
I guess part of the new SpikeTV deal is a synergy between Impact and other shows on the channel. While it was not quite ‘Steve-O’ quality, I did not see a link between the two shows other than they air consecutively.
I thought the Junior Fatu interview was very disappointing. He makes the ‘punny’ Rick Rude/Robert Roode joke and to me that shows that he does not care about who he is wrestling. Then he calls Roode a jabronie. TNA has spent the last two years trying to push Robert as a credible heavyweight in the company and they have Fatu tear down his character.
Does TNA have a deal with a handcuff store because it appears that every wrestler uses them.
