G4 NETWORK LUCHA LIBRE PILOT BEING FILMED THIS WEEK IN TIJUANA: PSICOSIS, CHAVO GUERRERO, LA PARK, JUVENTUD GUERRERA, HUMAN TORNADO & MORE INVOLVED

By Mike Johnson on 2007-03-28 14:00:00

The G4 Network, which is based around technology and gaming programming and has been gaining steam in attracting the 18-49 male demographic, will be producing a pilot for a potential Lucha Libre series titled "Viva La Lucha" this Friday 3/30 in Tijuana, Mexico. The idea is to produce a Lucha Libre product aimed for an English speaking television audience.

The one hour pilot will feature several names on top including Juventud Guerrera, Nicho El Millionaro (Psicosis, last seen in WWE), L.A. Park (the original La Parka, who no longer maintains the right to that name), and Rey Mysterio Sr. There are a number of Tijuana area regulars and California indy talents also scheduled for the taping, including several that were involved in MTV Wrestling Society X like Human Tornado, as well as a few names from Mike Quackenbush's CHIKARA promotion in Pennsylvania. Chavo Guerrero Sr. and Larry Rivera (A California-based announcer best known for some funny work in XPW) handling the commentary.

The actual taping will be free at the Tecate Foro/Palenque at Parque Morelos, Tijuana's equivalent of New York City's Central Park at 8:30 PM. The announced lineup for the pilot taping is:

*Disco Machine & Joey Ryan & Karl Anderson vs. Human Tornado & Lil' Cholo & Silver Tyger

*Tazmania & Scream & Viernes 13 vs. Pancho Cachando & Animaniac & Shamu Jr.

*Super Astro & Venum Black vs. Angel Mensajaro & Psycho

*Phoenix Star & Zokre & Cobra II (aka Puma) vs. Los Hego Boys

*Los Ice Creams vs. Jigsaw & Lince Dorado

*Minis: La Parkita & Octagoncito vs. Piratita Morgan & Espectrito

*Xtreme Tiger vs. Mortiz (Note from Mike: This has been a pretty heated feud in Tijuana)

*Rey Misterio Sr. & L.A. Park vs. Nicho El Millionario (Psicosis) & Juventud Guerrera

Aside of the match featuring the WSX talents, I'm not sure which of the bouts are dark matches and which will be part of the actual pilot episode. The WSX wrestlers are absolutely not part of the pilot since contractually they couldn't appear while that project is in MTV limbo. There are also plans to do a "Juice Bar" interview segment with Juventud. It should be interesting to see whether the mic work and backstage segments are spoken in English or Spanish, given the plan to focus on the American audience.

Once the pilot is taped and edited, it will be presented to G4 for potential pick up by the network.

The pilot is being produced by a company titled Masacardo Productions, which is headed by Ruben Zamora, who has promoted Viva La Lucha and Luchamania events in San Diego and other California markets.
