He says the live shrimp are really good, says people there have caught 2 or 3 big [what sounded like]"couvers" in just a couple of days & says it's good fishing this time of the year. Hillbilly says did the people there had a little bit of a recovery time from the recent hurricane, Percy says the hurricanes blew away everything that was above water down there, says there ain't much down there & feels they may've stayed in a couple of trailers & says it didn't hurt the fish at all. Hillbilly asks him if there's any kind of other season that's coming.

Percy says yes & they just got out of the 1st few days of dove season & now's the time to look for deer with bow & arrow. Hillbilly asks if that's interesting, Percy says yes & says the equipment's come along way because they have some high tech rednecks in his part of the world these days. Hillbilly asks if anyone wanted to know about bow hunting how would they go about it, says it's because he knows about the new bows that're out & says he don't understand it at all since it don't look like the ones that he played with when he was a kid. Percy says there's still some traditional archer's out there, but tells those that're interested he says almost anywhere in the midwest there's local bow shops.

Percy suggests that you talk to folks, try out different things & see what you like & says in his area there's a place called "The Hunter's Den" in Logan County, Kentucky that he goes to fix up his bow & says it's worked all the way from Kentucky to Africa. Hillbilly says that seems to be more of a real hunting excerise for a guy to show up his bow hunting skills, Percy says yes & it takes lots of practice & Hillbilly asks as to when bow season starts. Percy says in Kentucky it started 9/2 thru mid January, Hillbilly says he knows lots of people down there will get involved in that & asks him if he's got any trips planned & where's his next hunting gonna be.

Percy says it's 10/30 to see their buddy [what sounded like] Ed Haynes in Dallas, South Dakota & says he remember that they played songs last fall for the young ladies that work in a bar & says until that time, he'll stay in Kentucky. Hillbilly asks if he's heard of any hot spots going on with hunting, Percy says even though he won't be on the trip this year but his buddies in Montana tell him that this is the best year for [what sounded like] "fesins" in 40 years. He says "fesins" are running everywhere, says folks in Texas tell him that the quail population looks pretty good in the southwest part of Texas & says he's hearing that duck population in the Dakota's are huge this year.

Percy says 9/23 is the 6th annual Squirrel Fest party that's have music & Pat Haney will be there.

Percy says they'll have lots of pickers, food & wanted to invite producer Steve Popavich Jr., says he knows Spike's coming but maybe forgot to ask Steve. Hillbilly says Steve would love to come, Percy says to tell Steve to bring his pretty wife with him & Hillbilly says she's pretty as a speckled pup & she's always nipping at his heels like a poodle. Percy says since this'll be her 1st visit there, he won't make her put an apple on her head so they can shoot it off. Hillbilly asks if he can say hi to "The Commander", Percy says yes & he needs to congradulate him because he's done the best dove shooting this year that he's ever seen & then puts "The Commander" on the phone & says hi to Hillbilly.

Hillbilly asks him if he's done some great dove hunting, says Percy tells him that he's getting better every year, asks as to what's his secret & says his name is "Joel". "Joel The Commander" says the secret's that it's shooting with Percy daily, Hillbilly says Percy's the best & says he knows both of them have done lots of good hunting & lots of tours & asks "Joel The Commander" if there's anyplace that he'd like to go that's better for hunting. "Joel The Commander" says dove hunting's his favorite with [yep, what sounded like] "fastbirds", "waterbirds" & says he's done really well. Hillbilly says later on the show, he'll do a special on Steve Goodman & his new CD.

Hillbilly says he knows that "Joel The Commander" remembers songs like "The City Of New Orleans" & others that's legendary. He says they [the record company] found Steve's new album & again says Bunetta will be in the studio later & wants to make sure that "Joel The Commander" will be listening in. "Joel The Commander" says he will listen, Hillbilly says he appreciates him coming on & says anytime that Percy has to call in to talk about the hunting & fishing world, that he's welcomed to get in on it. "Joel The Commander" says he appreciates the invitation, says he's just sitting on the porch with Percy & just taking it easy out there.

Hillbilly asks "Joel The Commander" to put Percy back on the phone, says good to him & he'll talk to him soon & suggest to come over to his house & have some fancy meals that he does. "Joel The Commander" asks if it's Porter House steaks that he likes, Hillbilly says he just called his #. Percy comes back on the phone & asks if he heard a dinner invitation, Hillbilly says it's for him & "Joel The Commander" but may be able to squeeze him in there also. He thanks Percy for helping him make his show wonderful, his hunting & fishing news & says he'll play a tune for him & "Joel The Commander". He says it's from The Allman Brothers Band & tells him that he'll hear from him next week.

He says in '99 "Mr. McMahon" beat HHH for the WWE [then WWF] title, then says again in '99 Rene DuPree & Kenzo Suzuki beat Billy Kidman & Paul London for the WWE [then WWF] tag titles & says in 2002, Chris Jericho beat RVD for the Intercontinental title & says that's "This Week In Wrestling History". He says it's now time for his "Backstage Pass" segment & it's about Houston Harris who's the real name of Bobo Brazil: http://tinyurl.com/q6wy6 .

Hillbilly says Bobo was really something else who's a legendary guy that broke new ground, says he was born in '24 in Little Rock, Arkansas & was probably the most popular African American wrestler of all time. He says Bobo broke many racial barriers that were out there in the business, says he was referred to as "The Jackie Robinson Of Professional Wrestling" & says for good reason because he was someone that everyone loved to see. He says he drew record crowds whether it be in Chicago, St.Louis, Kansas City or anywhere & says Bobo was really big. He says Bobo's headbutt was known as the "Coco Butt" because he had the hardest head in the business.

Hillbilly says Bobo used the "Coco Butt" to a great degrill, then corrects himself & says degree of greatness. He says Bobo wound up living in Benton Harbor, Michigan where he had a restaurant called "Bobo's Brazil" [NOTE FROM JEFF:I think it was called "Bobo's Grill"] which became a landmark. He says back in his day, Bobo was famous for feuds with Johnny Valentine, Haystacks Calhoun, Dick The Bruiser, Killer Kowalski & says he was something else. He says Bobo had a charisma & personality that went down thru the business, says the late Junk Yard Dog & others had lots of charisma also but Bobo set the trend on the way that the business was gonna be with his tremendous athletic ability.

Hillbilly says everyone enjoyed Bobo, says he was the 1st African American wrestler to win the US title, says he was also the 1st African American man to wrestle in Florida because at that time it wasn't allowed. He says Bobo was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in '94, says he died in '98 at 78 years old, says he was really something & corrects himself by saying Bobo was 73 when he died. He says his legend will live on, thanks his staff on his show for putting this all together & making it possible for him to bring you his "Backstage Pass" every week. He says he'll now play a tune that you'll love ["Waterloo"] & says he'll go back to some days of a long time ago.

30.Hillbilly introduces Al Bunetta, says every time he looks at Al he gives him some inspiration & it makes him wanna go out & run around the block a few more times & lift some more weights. Al says he's not Jack LaLanne, Hillbilly says he is & says Al's 1 of his favorite cats from Nashville. He says he didn't meet Al too long ago but says Al makes quite an impression on everyone that he runs into. He says he always enjoys hanging & talking to him, says Al's had some kind of career & tells him that they'll take about the late Steve Goodman & his new CD. He then asks Al as to how long he's been around the record industry.

Al says he started in '65 or '66 as the road manager for The Rascals, Hillbilly says Felix Cavaliere, Eddie Brigati & the others are a Hall Of Fame band & then asks Al as to when he decided to move to Nashville. Al says he's lived in California & thought 1 day, woke up & realized it was time to leave. He says the pressure [of living in California] was too much, the riots [aka the Rodney King LA riot from '92] was too much, never felt comfortable & says 1 day he got up, left his house & came to Nashville. Hillbilly asks Al if he loves Nashville, Al says yes as well as his lifestyle & the people in Nashville & says it's really a great way to live a life.

Hillbilly says Al's the head of the record label Oh Boy Records: www.ohboy.com & asks him as to how that came about, when he started it & what gave him the idea to do so. Al says it started with the late Steve Goodman who couldn't work, fell out of remission due to being diagnosed with Leukemia maybe in '69. He says he started with Steve in late '71, says Steve fell out of remission the 1st time & needed to keep him active so during those years of performing, Al would go thru the audience & confiscate the [bootleg audience recording] cassettes that fans were making & kept them in the office.

Al says he was the mean Italian & wondered as to why Steve & John [Prine] were leaving beer around him, says Al would take the tapes at Steve's house & every Friday when the office closed & make Steve a part of everything, just to keep him going. He says Steve & Dan Einstein who worked with them at the time would sit while Nancy [Steve's widow] made the best [yep, what sounded like] "Bouya Base", says all drank wine & had a good time. He says Steve fell out of remission, then went into remission, was fine & then they took the records, says his performances were always so stellar & great & says he was the performer period.

Hillbilly says Steve was a great player & a guitar picker, Al says on his latest CD that came out is when he realized how great Steve was. Hillbilly plugs www.stevegoodman.net & www.redpajamasrecords.com to get the CD, says he's surprised of how many influences Steve's had & says you can hear his blues influence. He says everything Steve did & such a player he was as well as his lyrics & says to this day, people can't write like that. Al says his brother Peter who's also a gifted producer/writer called him this morning to tell him that there'll be a book on Steve that Nancy's putting together & says she wanted everyone that was close to Steve to write a couple of pages.

Al says Peter wrote a piece on him that brought everyone to tears this morning, says the timing was so great & Peter spotted it of what Steve was as a player, singer & writer but also as a person. He says you can sit & do testimonies all day & Steve was a tough little guy with that type of personality. Hillbilly says we'll talk more about Steve & John Prime later on but he'll now play a cut from Steve's new CD & says you'll really like this 1 called "Truck Driving Man".

31.Plays Steve Goodman's "Truck Driving Man", Arlo Guthrie's Hillbilly Jim promo & Arlo Guthrie's "The City Of New Orleans".

32.Hillbilly says "The City Of New Orleans" is a Steve Goodman song which's 1 of his most famous, Al says that & "You Never Even Call Me By My Name" & says there's so many great songs. Hillbilly says you can't go to a club or any place that plays music were they don't play 1 or 2 of those songs & says Steve's songs were iconic. He asks Al if he ever got a chance to talk to Steve about his songwriting process, Al says he & Steve has talked 15 times & even if he didn't want to, Steve would call him in the middle of the night to say "I got 1". He says when John would write a song, he'd call Steve because Steve would remember the entire song by listening to it 1 time through & says Steve had that kind of memory in mind.

Al says he himself wasn't involved when Steve wrote "The City Of New Orleans", but heard that it came real quick & then a fellow writer came to Steve at The Earl Of Old Town & told Steve that even though it's a great song, he didn't talk about what happened on the train. Al says Steve finished it, says Arlo was turned onto it & the rest is history. Hillbilly says he wonders as to how many times that's been recorded by other people & Al says maybe 70 or 80 times by different artists. Hillbilly says Al's had a many year relationship with John Prine being together with Oh Boy Records & asks Al as to how that came about.

Al says he & Steve started Red Pajamas Records because Steve was too ill to get out there, says label weren't that anxious to have Steve on board & says it's all in retrospects so grey. He says he & John were talking 1 day about their relationship at the time with a major label, says John told him "you know what, I'd rather do our own thing" & he told John that he's right. So he says John named it after a Buddy Holly song says they started it off with a Christmas single, says they didn't know if they were doing right or wrong & says that was the best thing that ever happened to them.

Hillbilly says Al's been gracious to come on, says it's good that they're on the radio together, says he loves going to lunch with him because they have great conversations. He says if they can get their conversations in the studio from Al, says Al's been around alot of people & everyone knows him. He says Al's lived to what everyone's told him about Al & more & asks him if he ever got the money that he owes Hillbilly. Al says after that introduction he owes Al money, Hillbilly says OK he'll pay him, again plugs Steve's CD which's something else & again plugs www.stevegoodman.net & www.redpajamasrecords.com to pick it up & says he'll play more songs like that.

Al says he called his cousin in New Jersey who's a dear friend & a great cousin who's also a wrestling fan, says he himself kinda knew it but wasn't sure of all the things that supposedly he's known to do & says he told his cousin that he was having lunch with Hillbilly Jim. He says his cousin fell down, couldn't believe it & asks if he really knows him [Hillbilly Jim] & says yes. Hillbilly says it's always good for people to remember you in a positive way & he likes that, says earlier Al was talking about managing The Rascals, says he [Hillbilly] got to meet Felix & says he's a sweet & wonderful guy. He says it's amazing as to how everyone really does with 1 or 2 people away from knowing each other anyway.

Hillbilly says he's known of Al for a long time before meeting him, says he knew Al's connection with John Prine & Steve Goodman & says his buddy in Kentucky that Al comes up sometimes & does work on some of Al's cars. He says for those that don't know, Al's a big motorman who loves cars & says he'll play a John Prine song now. He says they'll come back & talk about his buddy that does work for Al, talk more about Steve & talk more about Al.

33.Plays John Prine's "Illegal Smile" & "If She Were You".

34.Hillbilly asks Al if he & Steve co-wrote "If She Were You", Al says & when Hillbilly asks as to what type of friends were John & Steve & Al says they were like brothers. He says he, Steve & John were inseparable, Hillbilly says it's something for him to hear about these stories later on & found out that Steve was also a tremendous Chicago Cubs baseball fan. Al says yes & he wrote "Go Cubs Go" for a dying Cubs fan's last request. He says Steve loved Chicago & says it's Stevie's Chicago, Hillbilly says the song "When the Cubs Go Marching In" is on Steve's new CD, says that Old Town was a place that lots of guys got their start there & says he knows John Prine played there.

Al says it was a place where they all had a home to go & play, says it took them all in & says the music that came out of The Earl Of Old Town was amazing. He says to go to that place & have this tape of Steve live & says it's a 24 track that's just like from Heaven because it's unbelievable. Hillbilly says his songs are amazing to listen to, says everyone's renditions of them are something else & says you can't mess with them. Al says when he heard it for the 1st time, he couldn't believe that being with Steve for so many years daily & couldn't believe on how great he was by hearing this music.

Hillbilly says he wants to talk about a couple of songs from the CD & asked about the song "Red, Red Robin" where he's doing the picking on it. Al says Steve had a musical vocabulary where he can sing it, then tells a quick road story about on the way to a gig when being Steve's agent at the time. He says he'd cover every day that he could & on weekends, says he'd fly to Minneapolis where he'd perform with Jim Croce who was a good friend & says he & Jim was at the airport & Al's going on & on on how great Steve was. He says Jim had a bad cold at the airport & by the time they got to Minneapolis, Jim couldn't perform & had to be in bed.

Al says there was 2 shows, says Steve did Jim's show by singing all of Jim's songs & did his own show 4 times. He says that was Steve who could do any songs in the world, Hillbilly says the 1st time Steve hears a song he can remember it & sing it back & Al says Steve had a photographic memory. Hillbilly says that's quite a skill to have in the music business if you can recall like that, says lots of people don't have that & they have to spend lots of time trying to learn tunes. Al says he & Steve were playing in a theater in Mobile, Alabama & Steve found out that it was the 1st & last show done by Al Jolson, so Steve closed it with the song "Mame" on his knee.

Al says John had to follow him by telling John "G'Head John, they'll gonna love you" & says they got 2 ovations. Hillbilly says besides managing Steve he also managed John since '72 & again says you can pick it up at www.stevegoodman.net & www.redpajamasrecords.com . Al says Steve's daughter Roseana who's a chip off the old block produced a wonderful record called "My Old Man" with all her friends from a different generation, doing Steve's songs which's also available on the same sites: http://tinyurl.com/lwd6v produced by her & Chris Brown. Hillbilly says he'll play another Steve song now from his new CD, says this is a real good 1 & it's 1 that you'd like alot. He says he'll still ask Al about his car hobby because he wants to know more about it.

35.Plays Steve Goodman's "The Auctioneer" & "3 Legged Man".

36.Hillbilly says "3 Legged Man" was from the new CD & asks Al as to who wrote that song & Al says it's the late Shal Silverstein. Hillbilly says he wanted to talk about Al's car hobby but don't believe he'll have time & asks him to come back on sometime so he can talk about Al's life, because it's very fasinating of the life that Al's lived by doing many things & knowing many people. Al says sure anytime, Hillbilly says that's good & says both has had the best time talking about Steve, again tells you the sites on where to get Steve's new CD & asks Al as to how he feels about John Prine & Steve & asks if it makes him feel warm inside [to know them].

Al says 1 of the great lines from a John Prine song on "Sam Stone" it's, "Gave him all the confidence he lacked", says John & Steve gave him all the confidence he himself lacked. He says he did all his work & is so privileged to have been there, says to have Steve live to help him go thru every dream that he tried to do musically, he wants to feel that he was a part of it. He says they were a part of his life & were the best people that've ever walked into his life other than his own parents & family, says that's not show business, it's straight up & says he didn't know anything when he was working with them other than that they were great & to let the world know it.

Hillbilly says he's heard lots of class things about Shal Silverstein, Al says that Steve told him to take a ride with him to San Francisco & the next thing's that they're on a houseboat with this guy. Al says they took him into a world that he didn't know about, introduced him to Shal & says he was cooler than anyone he's ever met. He says he watched & listened to them write a song on his houseboat in the San Francisco Bay, says he almost feels like a zelic because he was there. Hillbilly says Al's a part of history, says some of these things that he's talking about are something else & says it's amazing to him that he can get Al in here to talk about these stories because people need to know these stories.

Hillbilly says people need to be chronical, written & heard so in the future, others can know about these guys & can't let Steve go by without people knowing as to how sensational he was. He says Sirius' honored that Al came in to hang out with him & talk about this, says the last song is a Steve song "You Never Even Call Me By My Name" & says Al knows something about that too. Al says John always told him that soon the business will catch up to what they're doing, says sure enough there's Sirius & they're playing us & it's so great. Hillbilly says we're honored, privileged & a treat for him to have Al, says he loves him who's 1 of the greatest guys that he's met in Nashville or anywhere.

Hillbilly says Al's personality is something that you can't help from liking, says he'll make him come back on the show again if he has to put the "Hillbilly Jim Hammer" on him. He says he sees the clock on the wall & he has to go, thanks Spike, Uncle Percy Mandoberg & his producer Steve Popavich Jr. He says he ain't here for a long time, he's here for a good time & because of Al, he's had a great time. He says before they leave, he wants Al to talk about this last song & Al says Steve & John co-wrote "You Never Even Call Me By My Name" but John chose Steve to have the song.

Al says he don't know why, but Steve added the famous verse "Ever since the day my Mama got out of prison", says thank God for David Allan Coe for cutting that song, says he took credit for it just by saying that Steve's the guy who wrote it & says he was gonna jump all over him. He says all were best friends, says he remembers a Christmas party at Steve's house when David 1st heard the new verse & says he was there again. He again says thanks to David for helping the Goodman & Bunetta families & everyone around. Hillbilly thanks Al for coming on the show, says hold on for Clement's show following his, again says to get the new Steve CD & says see you next week.

37.Ends the show with David Allan Coe's "You Never Even Call Me By My Name", show ends at 2:02PM
