He says yes to Dennis because both used to go to a gym together to work out, says the gym's still there because whenever he goes to State St. in Bowling Green, Kentucky, says it used to be called "BG Weightlifting & Excercising Equipment"[NOTE FROM JEFF:I think this is the place with the new name now: http://snipurl.com/vwyq ] & says both he & Dennis had great memories there. He plugs his email hillbillyjim@sirius-radio.com , says Bob Dylan has a new CD out called "Modern Times": http://tinyurl.com/m77xn & says Rolling Stones magazine gave it a 4 or 5 star rating.
Hillbilly says the magazine says Dylan's breaking brand new ground & doing things that're really cool. He says Dylan's not going back & doing "the old Dylan", because he read an article where Dylan said he didn't want to do the same old thing by rehashing it & wants to move on into the future & do some cool stuff: http://snipurl.com/vwyv . He says that Dylan told him that his friend Merle Haggard will be doing something real specialby writing a sequel to "Blowing In The Wind". He says this song ["A Friend In California"] is 1 of his favorites from many years ago.
7. Plays Merle Haggard's "A Friend In California" The Flying Burrito Brothers' "Sin City", Jerry Reed's "East Bound & Down" & Marty Stuart's "Hillbilly Rock".
8. Hillbilly says Marty Stuart's 1 of the most talented guys out there, then plugs Cowboy Jack Clement's show that follow his. He then says replacing Shooter Jennings this week that follows Clement's show is Hank Williams Jr. & he'll play song from the album "That's How They Do It In Dixie". He says this shows that the media makes it all crazy & says he'll now play a tune by Hank Williams III.

Hillbilly says everyone's rolling along nationwide & having a good time, tells people that're driving to please be careful & says to avoid unexpected traffic & weather, just tune into Sirius' Traffic & Weather channels that lists 20 cities nationwide: http://tinyurl.com/o8l29 . He says Percy Mandoberg will be on later & again says Augie Meyers will be on also.
13. Plays The Outlaws' "There Goes Another Love Song", Tom T. Hall's "Ravishing Ruby", Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Air's "Hot Rod Lincoln".
14. Hillbilly again plugs his email, again says Augie Meyers will be on the show & introduces Uncle Percy Mandoberg [via phone]. Percy asks as to how he's doing today, Hillbilly says he's fine, says Spike's trimmed his hair & the beard don't look too bad. He says because of that you can't tell as to what Spike's had for breakfast & probably didn't have any & says he & Spike are having lots of fun. He tells Percy that he knows that he's got some real goings on in the world of hunting & fishing. Percy says today's a great day because it's 9/2 which's the 1st weekend of dove season & it's a fine time for an outdoorsmen. He says this takes him back to when he was younger than Spike where he could hardly sleep waiting for the 1st week of dove season.
Hillbilly asks as to how many guys will be there for the 1st day & if they have their area picked up on where they're gonna hunt. Percy says he's got a couple of Spike's cousins with him in Ohio County, Kentucky, says he also has Pat Haney, the commander & Hillbilly's friend Rosa [Percy's dog] is there too wagging her tail. Hillbilly says Rosa's a sweet one that he loves, tells Percy to give her a pat on the head for him & asks Percy for tips on what to do & get into a place to hunt doves & anything to look out for. Percy says as to what to look out for, you need to be careful & even though hunting's about fun & guns are a good, wholesome things to use but don't get careless with them.
Percy says don't drink or do any silliness with guns, as for looking for doves you mostly look in cornfields or sometimes in a [what sounded like] a "millet field" that's been cut for hay that they use with soybean, which he says is his favorite. He then says sometimes in the west part of where he is you're hunting over [what sounded like] "my-ho patches", but just look for a recent harvested green field where you usually see the doves on powerlines that're next to the road. He says to always ask permission 1st before doing any hunting, says if you take care of a person laying they'll usually let you have access.
Hillbilly says he knows that Percy's a big Bob Dylan fan, tells him about the "Modern Times" CD & says he'll play 1 of his cool tunes for him.
15. Plays Bob Dylan's "Rollin' & Tumblin'", Bobbie Gentry's "Mississippi Delta", Hank Williams Jr.'s Hillbilly Jim promo, Hank Williams Jr.'s "Why Can't We All Just Get A Long Neck"?" & Drive By Truckers' "The Buford Stick".
16. Hillbilly says "The Buford Stick" is from the album "The Dirty South", then asks Percy as to what's going on & Percy says he & others are waiting for the doves to start flying & listening to Sirius. Hillbilly says Percy & his buddies all have a good time everywhere they go, Percy says having fun's a full time job & Hillbilly tells Percy that no one does it like him & he should know & Percy says yes. Hillbilly then asks him as to when they catch the doves & get their limit on where to bag them, then asks Percy if he's got any recipes that he wants to share. He says he's getting lots of emails & appreciates the recipes that he's been giving the fans.
Percy says yes & explains the unnamed dove recipe, says the 1st thing you do is clean the birds quick, get them cooled off & says he usually soaks them with ice water with some salt & vinegar, which he says makes the meat milder as you're preparing it for the table. He says 1 of his favorite dove recipe's 1 of the easiest:
1. Take about 15 to 20 doves & put them in a crockpot.
2. Take some Uncle Ben's wild rice [NOTE FROM JEFF: I'm assuming any rice will do] in 1 of those [as he says it] "mix-ses" & put it right on top of them.
3. Take a cream of mushroom soup can & pour it on top of all of that & 1 can of water.
4. Put it all there in the crockpot & in the morning, you come get it, eat it & there you'll have the best meal you've ever had.
Hillbilly asks if you can serve that with either cornbread or biscuits, Percy says it depends on who's there with you, Hillbilly says he likes both kinds & Percy says that's exactly as to what he was gonna say. Hillbilly says he knows Percy's got lots of things that he likes to do in the summer & asks if he's got any hunting news. Percy says yes & says his buddy Ken called him & both he & Ken will be going on a trip to West Texas to hunt some quails. He says he knows they have a pretty good hatch this year, says he & his buddies are taking their annual trip to Montana with bird dogs in the middle of October & says he'll have to call him long distance pretty soon.
Percy says he & his buddies will be in the southeastern part of Montana & hunt some birds & other stuff, Hillbilly says that's God's country over there, Percy says yes & says he & his buddies will be in South Dakota & finish their part of the trip. He says after that they'll come home, change clothes & go back to Arkansas for duck hunting. Hillbilly says that sounds good, says Percy lives the life that most men dream of & says he hopes to grow up to be like him. Percy says he hopes Hillbilly keeps Spike on the job so Spike can pay off his bill, Hillbilly says Spike'll keep the water & electricity turned on & not to worry. He tells Percy that he appreciates him coming on every week or so to talk to us & says he's doing a fine job out there.
Hillbilly then says he'll now play another song for him ["In The Summertime"] because summer's about over, but wants Percy to remember it & thanks Percy for coming on the show.
17. Plays Mungo Jerry's "In The Summertime", Old Crow Medicine Show's "Tell It To Me", Johnny Cash & Waylon Jennings' "There Ain't No Good Chain Gang" & Joe Ely's "Boxcars".
18.Hillbilly says we're in the middle of a fantastic show & says Sirius' letting you know all that's happening with traffic & weather channels. He again plugs Hank Jr.'s show coming up & the "Deadwood Radio" marathon. He then says the gas prices have dropped to almost 8 cents, says that's good but don't get yourselves all in a fluff because it's still 24 cents higher then it was a year ago. He says he don't know what's gonna happen with the gas prices because it keeps on [as he says it] "influcuating" [aka inflating], but says he don't care because he's having fun in the studio for you. He then says this next song ["Born On The Bayou"] that he knows you'll love.
19. Plays Credence Clearwater Revival's "Born On The Bayou", "Deadwood Radio" 24 hour marathon promo, Steve Earle's "I Feel Alright" & John Prine's "Sam Stone".
20.Hillbilly says if you talk about songwriters, it's hard to beat John Prine & again says Chris Knight will be on next week. He says it's so good for him to be here weekly & play these songs for you & have a chance to dig these up, put them together & makes everything work out so nice for you. He wants to talk about some airport traveling, says it's getting crazy because now they got elite security lines. He says some people don't like it & explains as to what an elite security line, is that if you're a 1st Class passenger or you're a person that's got so many miles when you're an elite flyer, you get bypassed & don't need to go on the regular lines like everyone else does.
Hillbilly says it's like an express lane where you go thru easily, says it upsets lots of people & makes people says that they pay 1st Class. He says it ain't about paying 1st Class & thought it was all about security & says we have to make sure that we do this right. He feels this ain't fair, says if they wanna do something like that then they should pre-screen everyone before they show up, however he feels they won't do that because it'll take a whole lot of other things. He says this whole airline business keeps going on & on, says that makes you wanna get in a car & drive & listen to his show. He again plugs Clement's show & says he'll play you by someone that he really loves [Todd Snider]. He says this guy has a great voice & he's a great songwriter & Outlaw Country loves him.
21. Plays Todd Snider's "If Tomorrow Never Comes", Scott Miller & The Commonwealth's "Say Ho", Moe Bandy & Joe Stampley's "Just Good Ol' Boys" & Willie Nelson's "Just Dropped In [To See What Condition My Condition Was In]"
22. Hillbilly says "Just Dropped In [To See What Condition My Condition Was In]" is Willie's psychedelic version of Mickey Newbury's song & was originally recorded by Kenny Rogers & the 1st Edition & says that's really something. He says he loves anything that Willie does, says Willie can put his tag on anything & says he's an Outlaw Country icon. He tells Spike that his grandpappy loved Willie, says his grandpappy's name was Percy Mandoberg I & Spike's pappy's Percy Mandoberg II. He says people don't know that but says these Mandoberg's are all over the place. He says after the next break, he'll do his "Backstage Pass" & it'll be about Killer Kowalski.
Hillbilly says he'll now play a tune by someone that we lost some months ago [Buck Owens]. He says it hurts his soul losing him because thinking that this guy ain't around no more is a hard thing. He says this guy's left an amazing collection of songs that he'll play as many as he can & says he pledges that to you. He says this tune ["Made In Japan"] that The Kentucky Headhunters recorded on 1 of their albums ["Big Boss Man"] that he loves, but you'll love the original.
23. Plays Buck Owens' "Made In Japan", Rosie Flores' "Hot Dog", Dusty Rhodes' Hillbilly Jim promo, Molly Hatchet's "Flirtin' With Disaster" & Johnny Paycheck's "Slide Off Your Satin Sheets".
24. Hillbilly says there ain't no mistaken Paycheck's voice, says it's time for his "Backstage Pass" & says it's about Killer Kowalski: http://tinyurl.com/nnqb8 . He says Kowalski's got 50 years in wrestling who's quite a character, says he cut his teeth in wrestling in the '40's & it's been told that he's had over 6,000 matches. He says Kowalski's legendary for lots of things, says 1 of the things was that he made props for himself vs Yukon Eric, where Kowalski REALLY ripped of Yukon's ear. He says that was really an accident as to what Kowalski did but he took advantage of doing that, says Kowalski was a fearsome bad guy that ever was.
Hillbilly says Kowalski was 6 foot 5 or 6 foot 6, was very imposing & had his special hold called The Claw that he'd put on people. He says that hold was so believable that people would cry when he'd put that hold on their favorite good guy wrestler. He says Kowalski would almost bring fans to the ring because he was hated so much, says he also had a huge flying knee drop that he'd use & was a vicious guy. He says the big thing about him was that you couldn't "blow him up", which means you couldn't make him run out of gas, get him tired or slow him down. He says Kowalski told him that 1 of the reasons that he had so much energy was that he's a vegetarian & never ate meat.
Hillbilly says as soon Kowalski became a man, he decided to be a vegetarian & says by staying in shape & condition is 1 thing that he's always done. He says people don't know this but Kowalski was on the 1st ever televised Canadian wrestling show years ago. He says with a name like Killer Kowalski & with TV being new at the time, he was easy for everyone to recognize & says overnight everyone in Canada recognized him. He says Kowalski held many titles in his career, had many matches with Bruno Sammartino, Eric The Red & others that're 50's & 60's icons & says Kowalski's in there with them.
Hillbilly says the thing that Kowalski's done that has amazed him was that he became a teacher who's opened up schools & knows all about injuries. He says Kowalski's knowledgable about health & other usual methods of rehab, says Kowalski showed him about "magnet therapy" where he had a neck problem & Kowalski gave him some magnets & felt that it helped him. He says the other day he saw an old letter that a fan sent to him, says it was a 1957 postcard & it was a postcard billboard for "All Star Wrestling" for Monday night 4/1/1957 at the Boston Arena. He says the main event was East Boston's Manuel Cortez vs Hamtramck, Michigan's Killer Kowalski.
Hillbilly says it was supposed to be a 1 hour, 2 out of 3 falls match & the ticket prices then was 50 cents for general admission & all the way up to $2.20 for ringside. He says for that price you can see all the blood & sweat flying off those guys, says Kowalski's something else & has his own school called "Killer Kowalski's wrestling school": www.killerkowalskis.com [NOTE FROM JEFF: He also has an official site where you can by his autographs: www.walterkillerkowalski.com ] & has had some of the best in the business. He says he trained Perry Saturn, Hunter Hearst Hemsley aka HHH, Joanie Laurer aka Chyna, his friend Big John Studd & others.
Hillbilly says he loves him & hopes to see him again soon & says he's the feature of this week's "Backstage Pass". He says he'll play a tune by a guy [Eric Clapton] who's name was written on the wall in the UK, says they called this guy God because he was a great guitarist, says he don't know about all of that but says this guy had lots of hits.
25. Plays Eric Clapton's "Lay Down Sally", Carl Perkins' "Where The Rio De Rosa Flows", George Jones' "The King Is Gone [& So Are You]" & Ramblin' Jack Elliot's "Drivin' Nails In My Coffin".
26. Hillbilly says we got songs this week & again says Augie Meyers will be on later. He then says if you knew that the heaviest states in America & says they're the southern states & mentions Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana & Kentucky. He says we know we love to eat but didn't know it was that much, says he & Spike are heavy & need to be careful & take better care for themselves. He says you maybe happy & fat with all that heaviness, but it'll also give you some health problems & says it needs to be straightened out. He says he'll play a big tune by this band [The Marshall Tucker Band] & says it's a song that's probably 1 that they're really known for. He says they're southern rock legends, likes to play anything from southern boys & says this band had a real cool sound & knows you'll love it.
27. Plays The Marshall Tucker Band's "Heard It In A Love Song", Woody Guthrie's "Going Down The Road Feeling Bad", the same Mojo Nixon's show promo & Merle Haggard's "Make-Up & Faded Blue Jeans".
28. Hillbilly says Merle never had a bad song, says it's about time to bring in Augie Meyers where he'll talk about the music that he's been involved in since the '50's.
29. Plays Jerry Lee Lewis' "Me & Bobby McGee", Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Call Me The Breeze" & David Allan Coe's "You Never Even Call Me By My Name".
30. Hillbilly again plugs his email & introduces Augie Meyers [via phone]. Augie asks as to how he's doing, Hillbilly says he's fine & it's a pleasure & honor to have him on the show. He says he's played Augie's songs for many years & will continue because they're the greatest, says he knows Augie's got lots of things to talk about & asks if as to what he's doing now. Augie says he just got back from San Francisco, California last week from doing a San Jose jazz festival, says he'll now leave on Sunday for an European 18 day tour in Sweden & Norway. Hillbilly asks as to who'll work with him over there, Augie asks if he's ever heard of the bands Rockpile & Abba, Hillbilly says yes & Augie says both made a new group called "The Rockarounds".
Hillbilly says that sounds cool & Augie says they'll back him up with 14 dates: http://tinyurl.com/eecul . Hillbilly says Augie started in the 50's & asked as to what was it like when he 1st began & did he had an idea that he was gonna have a music career. Augie says if he knew he was gonna live as long as he did, he'd take better care of his car. He says he started playing music, says he didn't walk til he was 10 years old due to having polio & laid in bed. He says across the street was a van, says a bus would pull up on Saturday 2PM & guys would come out, drink beer, sing & laugh. He says they'd all go back on the bus & leave, return at 2AM & do the same thing again & that's when he told his Mom that that's what he wants to do.
Hillbilly says that's a great story, says back in those days things were so different, says he & Augie have been around the pike for awhile & things have changed so much. He asks Augie as to what type of music was magical then, Augie says there was no competition then & you just did what you did. Augie says then it was only country music & now there's country, western so many other music styles, but then you'd play whatever it was you played. He says you'd play a blues song, says back then he & Doug [Sahm] a song by Bobby Bland or Albert King, then turn around & play a song by Web Pierce or Charley Pride song & it worked.
Augie says nowadays they want you to play 1 kind of music, Hillbilly says that's crazy & thinks it's a little bit prejudice & don't like that, because great music is great music. He says in those days it was magical with the Sir Douglas Quintet, tells Augie that when he 1st heard that group in Kentucky, people in Kentucky thought with a name like Sir Douglas Quintet had to be an UK band. Augie says his producer back then Huey Meaux told them that Augie will show up with his band The Goldens & Doug will show up with his band [what sounded like] "The Doug Sahm Marquees" & both will open the show for Dave Clark Five.
Augie says Huey told Augie that his hair's long like Doug & Augie told him that he got kicked out of school in '56 for long hair. He then says Huey told Augie to put a band together like in English because he had an imported organ here in America. He says after that, they went on the road as Sir Douglas Quintet with 3 Spanish guys in the band. He says they used to tell the Spanish guys that they need to talk English & [in a Spanish accent] they'd respond by saying "Hey look man, I'm trying to talk best English I can you know". Hillbilly says some of his wrestling buddies are big Texas Tornado fans, says lots of his Texas buddies remember Augie & the band.
Hillbilly says he remembers the organ that the band had that would go off thru him & thought that was cool. He says it's because at the time when "96 Tears" came out with a "?" & Augie & the band were doing that stuff, but the "Sir Douglas" thing was so cool & wanted more of it. He says for awhile we couldn't get enough of it & wanted to hear more & wanted to know what the band was doing, because those guys had a whole cool vibe about them & it was something. He says it got better & better, says he'll now play 1 of his tunes that everyone knows about & says this is the 1 that broke these guys worldwide.
Hillbilly asks Augie if he wants to say anything about "She's About A Mover", Augie says he & Doug was playing at a club called "The Blue Note" & a couple would come out & dance. He says at that moment Doug told him that "she's a body mover", says that was the original title for the song but in '65 titles like that you couldn't say on either records or radio, so they had to change the title to "She's About A Mover".
31. Plays Sir Douglas Quintet's "She's About A Mover" & Waylon Jennings' "The Taker".
32. Hillbilly tells Augie that he cut his bones in wrestling & knows that in Texas, wrestling has revered alot. He says he knows Augie has some wrestling stories to tell & says 1 of them was about Augie & Doug. Augie says he & Doug were wrestling fans & every Wednesday night they'd see it, says in those days there was Jose Lathario [who taught Shaun Michaels how to wrestle], Johnny Valentine & others. Hillbilly says those're legends in Texas, says a good Texas wrestling show was like no other & says the biggest thing they'd talk about, was that the fans were wilder then the wrestlers. Augie says Doug was wild to it also & cheered for the bad guys & because of that, he & Doug would get into fights with the audience.
Hillbilly says both of them were rebels then & says that's cool, then asks as to how the Texas Tornados came about. Augie says he had a song called "[Hey Baby] Que Paso" on Atlantic Records & it didn't do anything, so he went to New York where people had bones in their noses & wore 40 lbs of earrings. He says when he saw that, he says he didn't need that & bought out his contract & says Jerry Wexler helped him with that. He says he put out his own label & Warner Bros called him & told him & Doug to get a supergroup together. He says Doug asked Freddy Fender & he asked Flaco Jimenez, says he & Doug have known each other since they were 12 & they met Freddy in '58 & Flaco in '62.
Augie says they were old time friends & put the whole thing together, Hillbilly says the whole thing about this is that going back to Sir Douglas Quintet & Texas Tornados, is that when he saw these guy play they all looked like they had so much fun. He says they all looked like it was a party that everyone needs to know about, says it looked like it wouldn't stop & you can tell that it was their lifestyle. He says in the music world they need more of that because we don't have anything like that anymore, Augie says people get too serious & Hillbilly says they need to loosen up. He says everyone has this thing about perfection but says what Augie & his band did in those days was perfect.
Augie says someone came up to him 1 day & asked if he did this for a living & his response was he does this so that he don't starve & you'd have to be crazy to do this for a living. Hillbilly asks if Augie & his guys are working on a new album with Doug's son doing the singing, Augie says he sounds like his dad & says his son's name is Sean. Hillbilly says that sounds interesting & can't wait to hear it, then asks about Augie's new album "Blame It On Love" & how it came about as well as who's playing on there with him. Augie says his son [Clay Meyers] played drums on the album & produced it, says Augie wrote most of the tunes & says they're songs that he always wanted to sing.
Hillbilly says that makes it better because now he's got his son doing stuff with him & asks Augie if it makes him feel good that his son's on the same path as he is. He says his son's learning from Augie because he knows he did lots of things that he don't want his son to do & Augie thinks his son's done them already. Hillbilly says in that business you gotta get in there & asks him to plug his site, Augie says it's www.augiemeyers.com & Hillbilly says you need to check it out. He says Augie's done many legendary things & he's taking time out of his day to make his show a special 1. He then says he'll play "[Hey Baby] Que Paso" now.
33. Plays Texas Tornados' "[Hey Baby] Que Paso" & Freddy Fender's "Wasted Days & Wasted Nights".
34.Hillbilly says when he hears "Wasted Days & Wasted Nights" it takes him back to a nicer time when America was more simpler, says Augie goes back a long time with Freddy & has great stories about him. Augie says Freddy's a legend, says he & Doug met Freddy in '58 when he 1st came out with "Wasted Days" & says Freddy had a song before that & was called [what sounded like] "The LB Bop Kid & had a song called "The Only 1". He says all were on the road & when they 1st had the Tornados together, Freddy brought his band The Slims. He says Doug told Freddy that he wanted him to bring himself only, Freddy asked as to who'll back them up & Doug said we got a band already & Freddy says that they haven't heard his own band.
Augie says when Freddy went on stage with them & heard his band, Freddy told them that he let his own band go. Hillbilly says he's friends with Texas' Los Lonely Boys & says they tell him as to how much Freddy's influenced them. He says they & their dad would play his music all the time & says every time he gets a chance on his show, he'll play his song. He says "Wasted Days & Wasted Nights" & others that Freddy's done was amazing, says Freddy's sick now [due to lung cancer] & he's praying for him to get better. He asks Augie about the song "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" was some kind of a song, Augie says Freddy didn't want to do that song because it was an R&B song.
Augie says that song's from the 40's, says Freddy didn't want to record it & people would convince him to do it & when he did do it, it became an overnight sensation. Hillbilly asks Augie to talk about the CD he has now called "Our Frijoles Ain't Free Anymore" & says it's a kahunto & polka CD. He says there's a couple of country tunes in there & says the bass player is the uncle of Los Lonely Boys is on there called "Augie Meyers & Rockabacas". Hillbilly says he'll play a tune of a song that Augie wrote from his heart about Doug & asks Augie as to what made him write about the song because he knows it was heavy on him.
Augie says he was in Arizona on a Tuesday, called his wife & asked her to call Doug & tell him that they need to be in Austin by Friday because they have to take photos for Texas Monthly Magazine. He says he died on a Tuesday night & says when he gets in, tell him bye & that's what made him write the song "I Wonder Why". Hillbilly says it makes it so dog gone final & makes you crazy with the whole "leave, live & die" thing that we all have to do, but says you have things that you want to do. He says that's why he has his saying "I Ain't Here For A Long Time, I'm Here For A Good Time" & says everyday he tries to be happy as he can & knows Augie does the same thing to.
Hillbilly says if anyone wants to buy the album "Blame It On Love" to go on Augie's site [NOTE FROM JEFF: You can get it right here: http://tinyurl.com/qo68r ].
35. Plays Augie Meyers' "I Wonder Why" & Bob Dylan's "High Water [For Charlie Patton]".
36. Hillbilly says Augie's played with Dylan, John Hammond, Allman Brothers & asked Augie if he played on the album "Love & Theft" & Augie said yes. Hillbilly says he played good on there, says Bob Dylan's a cool thing for Augie because Bob likes to take him on the road with him & asked if he & the boys have fun with Dylan. Augie says Dylan's great, has known him since '63 & they've been buddies. Hillbilly says Dylan's misunderstood worldwide & likes it that he's coming out & doing his thing, but says it seems like Bob & Augie stay true to what he does, but still changes enough so he don't stay in the past.
Augie says he saw Bob a couple of months ago at a show, says he does it very different & has a couple of the original guys like bassist Tony Garnier & now has new guitarist Denny Freeman. He says Bob's got a bunch of new guys, says the band's tight & hopefully it'll be great. Hillbilly tells Augie that he was there in the early rock & roll days & during the UK Invasion & says it had to be a magical time. He says Augie & the guys laid new ground that no one has done even in that day, Augie says when they started in '65 they were the 1st US long haired band & says they were the answer to The Beatles. He says they did this in Europe & says the world was free, beautiful & wherever they went, people asked about their long hair & music
Augie says the day Charles Manson did his job on the late Sharon Tate, that changed overnight & says everything went from hero to zero. He says 1 day you'd have long hair & a beard & at that time, people didn't want you in a restaurant, hotel or anywhere. Hillbilly says they must continue with this sometime on another show when they have more time together, so Augie can talk more about how hard it was traveling. He says they couldn't go to places & check into hotels & eating because people would discriminate them due to the way they looked. Augie says he remembers going to places & his hair was too long & his wife's dress was too short.
Augie says back then they had a black sax player & because of that, they couldn't stay in hotels or eat & says it was hard. Hillbilly says things have changed, says he don't know if any of the young guys in music today are educated enough of what happened then. He tells Augie that what happened then shapes his music because he & those guys are living it. He then mentions about Doug's new CD ["Doug Sahm & Band"]: http://tinyurl.com/oot2c & the Sir Douglas Quintet albums will be re-released by Collectors Choice: http://tinyurl.com/elehp & was told they'll be out 10/31. Augie says yes, said a guy from California called him & even though he don't have them yet, he says the guy sent him a whole collection of songs for Collectors Choice.
Augie told the guy that's great & says the guy asked him questions about the albums & again says he himself hasn't seen this yet. Hillbilly again says these will be out 10/31 by Collectors Choice & tells Augie that he got a heck of a compliment from Jerry Wexler, who says that Augie & Doug were absolutely unbelievable & classy. He says Jerry even said Doug was what Dr. John is to New Orleans & says that's what Doug is to Texas. He then asks Augie if he felt the same way about Doug, Augie says yes & says Dr. John was a good friend & was also known as Mac Rebennack. Hillbilly asks if he ever gets a chance to spend time with his buddies, says it's like him in wrestling where with the exception of calling Dusty Rhodes once in a while, but don't really get a chance to sit around & talk to them.
Augie says he knew Dusty way back then, Hillbilly says Dusty used to talk about Augie & his buddies all the time & says he'll tell him when he [Augie] will be on the show & he'll listen because he's got to hear this. Augie says it was beautiful then & says there's a thing that he always says: "Because things are the way they are, things won't stay the way they are". Hillbilly says that's true that things have to change & says that's the beauty of the music business with guys like Sir Douglas Quintet & Texas Tornados & other things Augie's done. He says once they're on a CD or record, they'll be played forever & says that's what he tries to do on Outlaw Country.
Hillbilly tells Augie that he's had lots of fun with him & asks Augie to tell about the other tunes that he wrote with the Tornados. Augie mentions "[Hey Baby] Que Paso", "Guacamole, "Dinero", "Bailando" & says someone in Argentina recently did the song "Bailando". Hillbilly asks him if it blows his mind when people come up to him & tell him as to what his songs meant to him & Augie says all the time. Hillbilly says this is a storybook to everyone's life where we all remember where that song where we 1st heard it, where we were when we 1st heard the song & when we remember the time. He says it takes us back to good times in our lives & says that's what music's all about.
Hillbilly asks Augie as to how the song "Dinero" came about, Augie says he was in a gas station 1 night & a guy asked him if he had any money that he can borrow so he can buy gas. Augie said the guy had a camero, then said yes but saw he had 2 chicks with him & a cooler of beer, but no money to buy gas so he gave the guy a couple of bucks. He says as he drove off he said "you got the dinero, I got my Camero". Hillbilly says that's history & it's a great song, then tells Augie that this has been spectacular for him & thanks him for taking time out of his day to be on his show. He says he knows Augie's a busy guy & has travels & tells him to travel safefully as he goes to Europe, enjoy the rest of the summer & wants to get together again.
Augie says sure & thanks him for his time, Hillbilly asks him to plug his site again & of course Augie repeats it. Hillbilly says he's had a great time & needs to leave for Clement's show, says he ain't here for a long time, he's here for a good time & tells Augie that he's had a fabulous time & thanks him again. He then thanks Spike, producer Steve Popavich Jr. & says he'll see you next week.
37. Ends the show with Texas Tornados' "Dinero".
