ROH Episode 60 Review: “Premier Athletes Make Their Mark”

Not only is our ROH World Heavyweight Champion wrestling tonight, but ROH announced all of these matches ahead of time! It seems as if there is a new era in ROH happening and I for one am a big fan. Now besides all of these changes, how did the rest of the episode do? Let’s review!

Mark Briscoe Promo:

Briscoe calls out the House of Black and says they are no match for the team of Kingston, Briscoe, and Copeland heading into this weekend. Briscoe is focused and he and his team will be the ones to defeat the House of Black once and for all.

Aaron Solo vs Bryan Keith:

This was a highly competitive matchup. I must admit I am a little disappointed that they are using Keith in ROH more as I thought they would be using him more on AEW TV. Solo looked good here as well and since he has left the Nightmare Factory he has truly shined in ROH. Keith gets the win and shows the Code of Honor with Solo after the match is over.

Winner: Bryan Keith

Lance Archer and The Righteous (Dutch and Vincent) vs Jon Cruz, Savion Trutt, and Damian Chambers:

First squash match of the night. Let’s just hope there are not as many as last week.

Winners: Lance Archer and The Righteous (Dutch and Vincent)

Premier Athletes Vignette:

There was another vignette this week hyping up the Premier Athletes. Josh Woods was working out and flexing while Mark Sterling was hyping him up as being a true Premier Athlete. After this Ari Davari, Josh Woods, and Tony Nese stood there in matching tracksuits as Sterling kept hyping them up. Sterling says he had a plan from Day One and it was to make these three the next biggest stars in ROH. He says by the end of 2024 whether we like it or not they will be champions. Phase One of his plan was their win at Supercard of Honor while Phase Two of his plan starts tonight.

JD Drake vs Lee Johnson:

ROH did not give Drake a titantron, even though he is signed to the company and is in an established ROH Tag Team. This match was a little too long and took a while to get going. This match also proved why Johnson should have won at Supercard of Honor because Johnson is featured on ROH TV every week when Fletcher does not appear as often.

Winner: Lee Johnson

Abadon vs Allysin Kay:

I was very excited that Kay and Marti Bell were on ROH this week as I feel they should be featured on ROH more often because of how good they are. Although Abadon dominated most of the match and they won, still nice to see Kay spotlighted in a company where she has a history.

Winner: Abadon

Taya Valkyrie Promo:

Valkyrie says Johnny TV is rehabbing his abs after his loss at the pay-per-view. Valkryie says she will carry the family on her back and get the win in her trio's tag team match later on in the episode.

Iron Savages (Bronson and Boulder) vs The Infantry (Carlie Bravo and Shawn Dean):

Throughout the match, Jacked Jameson was trying to peer pressure The Infantry to drink the sauce to help them win the match. This match was more on the comedic side than a serious tag team match, but The Infantry shined. Again, they should have won the tag titles at the pay-per-view two weeks ago. They get the win as they look for another shot at the ROH Tag Team Championships. After the match, the Premier Athletes came out to confront The Infantry. The three of them beat up The Infantry until Dalton Castle made the save. Castle was also accompanied by Lee Johnson, Bryan Keith, and Mark Briscoe. Looks like Dalton Castle found some new friends after all.

Winners: The Infantry (Carlie Bravo and Shawn Dean)

Taya Valkyrie, Leila Grey, and Diamante vs Leyla Hirsch, Trish Adora, and Kiera Hogan:

Leila Grey has returned to ROH even though she took the pin in this match. This was a lot of fun, usually when ROH does the women's trios tag team matches they are done well. I would have rather seen a match to determine Billie’s first challenger for the ROH Women’s TV Title, but I guess they are saving that for the weeks to come. I hope.

Winners: Leyla Hirsch, Trish Adora, and Kiera Hogan

Griff Garrison, Cole Karter, and Maria Kanellis Promo:

Karter says that they are not giving Serpentico back his match and Garrison does not care about how important Serpentico’s mask is to him. Kanellis says that Garrison needs all the confidence he can get in his Proving Grounds match against Mark Briscoe later on tonight.

Nick Comoroto vs The Beast Mortos:

The crowd was not into this match at all. This match was quick as Mortos got the win, commentary tried playing into this new version of Comoroto so I guess we will be seeing more of him in the future in ROH.

Winner: The Beast Mortos

Lady Frost vs Marti Bell:

This match was highly competitive and lasted longer than Kay’s match earlier in the night. One of the things that I found interesting was Bell taking the heel side in the match constantly talking smack and even yelling at children in the front row. Bell also got a lot of offense throughout the match and like I said earlier I would not mind seeing her and Kay in ROH more often. Frost got the win as her winning streak keeps on getting bigger.

Winner: Lady Frost

Nick Comoroto Promo:

Jacoby Watts interrupts and says he can lead Comoroto to the promised land and he can help turn Comorto’s luck in ROH around.

Evil Uno and John Silver vs Zak Patterson and Frank Milano:

Only two squash matches in this episode. Not bad.

Winners: Evil Uno and John Silver

ROH World Heavyweight Championship Proving Grounds Match: Mark Briscoe vs Griff Garrison:

Since this was a Proving Grounds match this match was not long and at some points, this match felt rushed. Karter got involved and choked Briscoe to try to get Garrison the advantage, but it was no match for the new ROH World Heavyweight Champion. Don’t get me wrong it was great to see the ROH World Heavyweight Champion on the show, but I expected more and not just a simple Proving Grounds Match.

Winner: “And Still” Mark Briscoe

Overall:

Unfortunately, we still have the same problem there are no champions that appear on the show. The only champion that showed up was the World Heavyweight Championship, which was great but every champion should be appearing every week on ROH. I thought some of the wrestling was not that good and a lot of the booking on this week's episode was lazy. Hopefully, next week is better.
