THE DAMAGES THAT TONY KHAN’S HARVEY WEINSTEIN COMMENT CAUSED, DOES TONY DESERVE CREDIT FOR WEARING THE NECK BRACE, TERRITORIES AND MORE

Can the WWE sue Tony Khan/AEW for slander because of the Harvey Weinstein comment?

This is America.  People can sue for anything.  But when you sue someone, you need to prove that you were hurt by the comment in some way.  In this case, we had NFL Network announcers laughing at a guy in a neck brace who, frankly, looked and acted like a goof.  I don’t see any recoverable damages there and I don’t see TKO wanting to even bother with him.  With that said, I can see other potential repercussions coming Tony’s way for the childish, petulant comment he made in attempt to attack WWE because, as he has said before, he hates them.  What dim Tony forgot, while he was on the NFL’s own network, is that WWE is a partner of the NFL.  They make Title belts.  Also, think about where recent Wrestlemanias were held.  Jerry World, owned by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.  SoFi Stadium, owner by LA Rams owner Stan Kroenke.  Hell this year’s WrestleMania was held at Lincoln Financial Field, owned by Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeff Lurie.  I would have to think that fellow NFL owners would not appreciate what Tony said about a company that they have a good business relationship with.  I would say I have no idea what he was thinking when he said that, but I often have no idea what Tony is thinking when he says things so I would just be stating the obvious.

Yes, Tony Khan looks like a fool wearing a neck brace at the NFL draft.  Yes, the commentators can't resist making fun of him.  But, do you give him any credit for at least attempting to raise awareness for AEW by getting people talking about it on a national mainstream platform?

I guess?  I mean, what awareness did he really bring?  He went on the NFL Network and acted alike a worked injury was real and got laughed at by the announcers.  Then he made the Harvey Weinstein comment and they cut him off.  It didn’t do anything positive for AEW in my view, but maybe it did in others’.  It’s a shame too, the guy has TV on TNT.  He has all the exposure that he needs.  He used to get 900,000 to a million viewers a week.  It’s not that AEW needs exposure, they need a good product if they want to attract new eyeballs.  And here’s the thing, he was wearing the brace, sure, but he didn’t sell it.  He was bobbing his head around like a chicken looking for feed so, to me, he came off like a clown.  I don’t know that he should be wanting that kind of attention for AEW.

So Tony is now a tv character. Which is fine. His call. But why do it the one week of the year he has to be on TV for the NFL? Why not do this angle, have Tony disappear and then at say ALL IN have Tony debut a savior of AEW, his new top star? A guy like Osprey would have been perfect. Who is going to avenge Tony? There’s nobody left to sign, right?

That’s why, he wanted to get on TV with the neck brace to get publicity for AEW.  As for who defends him, beats me.  No one even came out to make the save on Wednesday until after the heels left.  I guess we will see.

Billy Corgan announced Kross Fire Wrestling which is owned by NWA Women;s champion Kenzie Page as the new NWA 'territory, Then there's Exodus pro Wrestling owned by EC3 that's an NWA Territory, FTW in Florida owned by Bryan Idol. and Joe Cazana Promotions. Do you think it seems a little 'funny' that the only companies that Corgan wants as "NWA Territories" just happen to be owned by wrestlers that are on his roster? It gives the appearance that he doesn't want to truly work with other promoters unless them promoters happen to be wrestlers or talent working for his own company. What are your thoughts on this? Did you see the same thing I do or is this just me.

I see what you see as to who Corgan is aligning with but I don’t think it matters.  These are tiny promotions. And, what does the NWA name mean in 2024?  I appreciate Billy is keeping it alive and all, but almost 30 years ago ECW threw down the NWA Title because it was largely dead then.  I don’t see being an NWA territory as being any kind of game changer.

I’ve spent many nights in J-Ville — multiple years as corporate rep for a previous Gator Bowl sponsor — and fully know Action News is a great media outlet with an eye on news, not BS. But for them to bury The Khans with this seat filler report… why? Is there a bigger story here? Very weird they do this with the owner of the local NFL franchise and his now-in-the-storyline son

It definitely came across like the author may have some issues with the Khans.  I don’t think the story was a hatchet job.  AEW was looking for seat fillers and the crowd was way down from past shows, so those were true statements.  But I hear what you are saying, it was curious to take on the Khans in the market the way that they did.
